Is that when people shake up their snow globes and think that's what's falling outside?

Yeah for sure. Also revealed some snow biases at least in Boston....

Well the euro had snow as well..so did the SREFs. It was really late last night when the rug got taken out from under us.

oh baby, lightning strikes over nepa, hail in jersey, graupel high atop mt zucker..................should be a fun night

I have never seen this type of precip before, it's like we have a mix of snowflakes, snow grains, and pure sleet. Actually sticking to the pavement now as the sun begins to drop. Something is seriously wrong with this storm, but radar is looking nasty, and I mean that in a good way Snowman.gif

32.5/32...just need 1/2 degree now!

That sounds like an orographic convective shower on the mountain during the early fall or late spring.... awesome! Yet at the same time, precipitation is probably coming down pretty heavily, no? I'm surprised the increase in precipitation rates isn't changing it over to the more snowy side.

This is the opposite of normal: when the precip is heavier, it goes over to IP and the temp rises.

When it is lighter, the precip is mostly snow and the temperature falls.

Not really understanding what is going on with this storm, just don't have the meteorological knowledge to understand such a weird overrunning event with tornadoes in SW PA and snow/sleet here. Models seem to be equally baffled with some having us under 40dbz snows tonight while others are relatively dry.

Radar is a shred fest ... you get under a deeper green shard and you may shower down to 1/2 mile if you are lucky, but then your shard pulses down and the next town over ends up in a new one ...rinse repeat until it all end\s innaccuously some hours later.

Limited impact if any...

Also want to point out the obvious here and that is that there was a good bit of drying in the low levels today from whatever source, and this is gobbling up what ever falls out of dying dynamics; paltry as it comes and weakening further, is having to overcome dry air. The areal coverage up in NYS is shrinking in keeping with shriveling dynamics.

All these objective observations suggest folks should seek other entertainment options for this evening and then wait on being pleasently surprised.

18z GFS trying to dig in for April 2 again - frankly after the current debacle, it just adds fuel to my personal fires for hating this time of year. Who cares.

amazing night down here if your a weather lover.

huge dendrites, graupel, snow grains, ip....landscape is white again.

crazy stuff.

hope we can get into the stratiform shield later, not likely but if we do, all bets are off.

If your lucky and your lucky - enjoy it. Exercise in futility if you ask me.

Gee, so negative. Here I was enjoying the falling (and accumulating)snow but now I feel like I should at least consider sticking my head in the oven.lol

thundersnow in jersey.

radar looks awesome

life is good today.

We just have to hope the intense banding gets to our area and doesn't get shunted south like last night's disaster, when I only picked up .5" accumulation compared to the 8" that fell in North-Central NJ. Radar does look somewhat encouraging, however.

Oh well I'm usually a very optimistic person re: every snow event. But this one is a sad excuse. I think if we get an inch we're lucky to be honest. Sometimes things just don't work out.

But it's a treat to have 24F with -SN on March 23rd. :)

Well, I haven't totally given up. It is snowing now and I could see getting a few inches from this. You are right, it's March 23, I still have a decent snowpack and snowbanks and fresh snow falling that's something to enjoy and be thankful for. It's been a great Winter.

light snow

i have no idea what your talking about :pimp:
