famartin
GFS has been sinking south with its own precip bullseye this evening. The NAM and GFS soundings are significantly different... though even the NAM is still mostly rain at TTN with the cooling occurring after most of the precip has moved through (most of it is before 3Z). RU848789
AS of 5 am, woke up to a nice surprise: snowing moderately with 1.8" of snow already on the ground, including even about an inch or so on the asphalt street in front of my house. Temps are about 32-33F according to the various Weatherbug stations around me (32.8F at my house). So we've already achieved our storm forecast, lol. Radar looks very healthy - I could see 3-4" if this rate holds up before the sun starts to do any damage, i.e., before about 8 am. Haven't read the thread to know if everyone else is seeing the same. Snowfall maps from the NWS don't look any different. Hmmmm..... NWS just expanded the WSWarnings to Northampton, Warren and Morris counties, yet still not even a WWAdvisory for Middlesex, where I now (as of 5:30 am) have over 2" and many folks sound like they're seeing similar amounts and given the radar, there's more on the way at least until sunrise. A friend just told me he has over an inch in West Windsor in southern Middlesex County. Traffic cams look like even 80/78 are a bit snow covered and I'm sure secondary roads are slick in most places. I think the NWS needs to wake up on this one, especially for the I-95 corridor in the Philly and NYC CWAs. Well, I left for work around 7:30 am, with the snow having been much lighter since about 6 am; roads were fine by then with a small amount of snow only on a few side streets and nothing on Route 1 (a friend of mine did report that 287 in our area was partly snow-covered at 5 am). Ended up with 2.5" on the colder surfaces (my car) when I left and I doubt there's been any further accumulation - in fact, the snow here in Rahway, 9 miles to the NE looks to be melting. They never did issue WWAdvisories, I guess. Looks like some rain through the evening, then a change back to snow and perhaps another 1-2" here. Would love that. Anyone know if the NWS snowfall maps are for total snowfall for the entire event or after a certain time (they really ought to put a "for the time starting at x and ending at y" comment on those maps)? Map has me in about a 3" area, which would mean I might only get 0.5"more. The 2.5", so far, brings me to 63.0" for the season - not bad.
iceman56
Quite a letdown here. Looks like maybel another small batch of rain this evening here and that will be it. After sitting on the edge of the 5" line yesterday on the NWS snow map with winter storm warnings up just 10 miles away and then winding up with a little mixed slop before daybreak and just some off and on rain this morning. Such is life at 40N in late March...

famartin
12Z EC QPF for this evening is worlds apart from the GFS and NAM. Much much drier... where the NAM and GFS have 0.25-0.5 with bubbles of 0.5+, the EC mainly has 0.01-0.1 except in central NJ where it edges in some 0.1-0.25. Will be very interesting to see which model is correct.

famartin
Looking at radar... it seems like what the GFS and NAM are keying on is the convection developing in Ohio. Which really makes one wonder how much of that can really be snow when it gets to eastern PA and NJ.

Voyager
Those are some nasty looking cells, and southwestern PA is under a tornado watch at the moment. Quite a contrast in air masses as well as it's 68 in Pittsburgh and only 34 here.
