famartin
Thunderstorms with temps in the upper 30s. I get the frozen precip part, but the thunderstorms I don't. Elevated instability. Essentially its as if the ground is the warm front (which extends vertically and horizontally into the atmosphere). Above the front, its unstable. famartin
I don't miss that one bit. We may be a less "busy" bunch but the quality in general is pretty darn good. Yeah, in OT someone commented about how "quiet" the PHL board is. I wanted to reply "at least there's a lot less weenies"
Patrick T
Wow. One of the wierdest weather events I've ever experienced. Sitting on the couch. Heard the thunder. Shortly there after I hear what sounds like hail wacking against the house. Frequent lightning, loud thunder, and this hail sound. When I went outside, it was definitely a hail storm. No doubt. Little round balls. Lightning and thunder. But it wasn't just hail. There was sleet mixed in with the hail. When I pushed what was on my car into a pile there was clearly snow in there as well. Clearly defined little round balls of hail. Sleetlike hail pellets. And cleary snow in there too. Did I mention. Wow. All's quiet out there now. Stars. Parsley
I think our region (for the most part) keeps hype to a minimum when discussing events and upcoming events, and we also get along fairly well with each other. Its nice to see. I wish there were a larger number of us, but that would likely produce more bad eggs.
Scotty Lightning
Just started to thunder here with some light rain....no hail nor sleet yet, but looking at the radar it's coming. I've been updating a lot on my Facebook page.

As we move to spring/summer the weather in NYC and Philly won't be all that different most of the time. Although I'm gonna be mad on those couple of spring days where we are overcast/rainy and 40s while y'all are in the 60s/70s. C'est la vie. Plus I was kickin it in Philly the past two years. famartin
Well, I'll say that I did bust in discounting the NAM's big QPF blob over the area during this time period... GFS was way too far north. Of course, the NAM was also way too cold, as I suspected. So 1 out of 2 isn't too bad right?

Thunder Road
Radar loop of that Chester County blob shows just how low-topped these storms are. Watch it "blow up" as it crosses into Chester because the radar beam from KDIX is too high west of there.
