Thunder Road Posted March 24, 2011 Share Posted March 24, 2011 5 or so bright flashes & thunder, then about 15 minutes of heavy UFP (unidentified frozen precipitation) Coated the deck, I was able to sweep it into a pile 2" deep or so. Very neat whatever it is. At one point I observed 50% RN, about 35% small ice pellets, 15% larger ice pellets both type of ice pellet were relatively clear. by "large" I mean pea-size versus pinhead-size (small). I think it was all sleet/graupel, since the clouds tops are so low and the ice I saw was mostly clear. There could be hail in other spots though. temp dropped from 37.1° to 35.7° in ~20 minutes.
