snowstormcanuck
Slant sticker. Does this one get to you 60" for the season? lol, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if I was doing that without consciously knowing it. Close, but not at 60" yet. But we're in the right pattern to make that happen. Although, I'm content as far as snowstorms go. You can have the next one or two, just send the fringes up here so I can get that final 0.6". You can take it to the bank that if, and it's a big if, we get some snow here with the next system and it's around 0.9 to 1.0"...I'm putting down 1.0". To hell with accuracy. Organizing Low
lol, so close. I did 8 measurements and it could have easily gone either way. 5.9" or 6.0". Being the snow douche I am, I'll go with the 6". Great storm. Went according to plan, no hitches, and got the higher end of my forecast range. Plus, by going with 6", I end my 2 year, 1 month 6" snowstorm drought. But barely. if you had that long a drought, wouldnt you want to be absolutely certain you ended it? for all you know, it could be 5.9 and your drought is continuing. Doesn't really matter. I could have indeed received 6". I don't know, so I won't dwell on it. Frankly, with the effects of variables like blowing snow, inconsistent measuring frequency, ruler angle, all these numbers with decimal points don't mean a whole lot. I mean, it's my best guess, but I should put out a range instead of a single number. lol.

Yes that storm was pure dissapointment. I was expecting a solid 10-12+ inches with that storm but that darn dry air had to ruin the fun. Anyways this storm was great as I said before and for this late in the year to get 6-7" that's not bad.
on_wx
69" is now my season total so far, ka-ching! Oh, and turns out 10.2" is my total from this storm, not 10.6" We had a total of 26 cm from the storm on March 23rd. This is the highest single day snowfall since March 9, 2007. The total snowfall this season of 175 cm is now above the average of 160 cm.

Chicago WX
17.8" at GRB with this storm. This was the third 10"+ snowstorm for them this season, the first time that's happened in their recorded history. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/grb/?n=032311_snowstorm Through yesterday, GRB has seen 81.7" of snow for the season, which puts them one inch shy of the 5th snowiest on record. 1) 147.7"...1887-88 2) 103.6"...1889-90 3) 87.7"...2008-09 4) 87.4"...2007-08 5) 82.7"...1886-
roardog
What's even more impressive for the areas that received snow is that it's going to stick around for an unusually long time for late March. Even if the sun baked areas have lots of melting, the shaded/wooded areas will keep snowcover easily in this pattern.

Harry
I want to know what the heck happened in 87-88 to get that kind of record. The 1889-90 isn't even close. Temps were a bit below normal in 87-88 per Lansing data except with Dec a hair above at 28.8 vs normal of 27.0, Jan well below normal with average of 14.3 vs normal of 21.7, Feb below normal with 20.1 vs normal of 24.1, March was below normal with 26.2" vs normal of 34.0 and April was Normal however Nov 87 was below normal with 35.0 vs normal of 38.1. Very odd storm track by the sounds of it per the temps. BUT that 89-90 was a mega torch and one of ( if not "the" ) warmest winter ever. Had the warmest Dec ever with 36.8 and the normal is 27.0 and is the ONLY known Dec to not have a single flake fall ( 0.0 ) but it did snow in Nov with 11.0". Jan and Feb had averages of 31.2 ( Jan ) and 31.4 for Feb. March was the coldest of them all with 28.0 which is wild.

Plus, by going with 6", I end my 2 year, 1 month 6" snowstorm drought. But barely. Dont know how long the snow lasted, but remember you do 6-hour measurments, so technically if theres 5.9" on the ground from, say, a 18 hour storm, its easily going to be 6.0-6.2', especially in spring. Now, that of course is provided it was a fairly easy to measure snowfall where a snowboard comes in handy. If this was a wind-driven storm, then its basically the observers best judgment. In any case, congrats. Its not fun feeling winters icy breath on the lap of spring when you have bare ground (Im FREEZING as I type, despite the windows of course being closed and the furnace purring away), but I had had 5 storms drop 6"+ during your 2 year drought, not to mention a slew of 4-5.6" type deals. You were due.
