snowstormcanuck
Very light snow coming down in the wind. Anyway, I got an XL 3x3 at Timmies with my name on it hopefully I'll win something today on it gl Went from a few flakes to moderate snow in about 15 minutes. wishforsnow
The Marquette NWS should of stuck with there first forecast of keeping the snow done in the extreme UP because that is where it stayed. High pressure in Ontario created too much dry air. Well it looks like so far no big snowstorm for us in March for the second year. Since 2000 up to 2009 we were in that March snowstorm and even an April snowstorm trend, but I think it ended last year.
roardog
It looks like it was pretty much all snow here last night. There may have been some sleet mixed in but I was sleeping so who knows. Looking outside, there looks to be about 5 to 6 inches, so there couldn't have been too much sleet last night. Now, it's just light snow. It sounds like northern areas that were expected to get big snows didn't do so good and areas like here that had freezing rain in the forecast ended up with snow, so was everything a little south of the forecast? snowstormcanuck
Per usual, dryslot is underestimated by models. Won't make it here, but a lot of areas to my SW under Heavy Snow Warnings are currently dry.

Looking at the mesoanalysis, sfc low probably tracked a bit south of the model consensus 24 hours ago. Looks like it'll be s IA to south of ORD, rather than central IA to right over ORD. michsnowfreak
0.56" of rain with trace of sleet/snow. About as expected. Hoping for some backside snow tonight. We could really use some snowcover with such a prolonged cold snap coming, plus it would inch us way up there on the "whitest winters" list, as we are officially at 9th whitest winter with 80 days of 1"+ snowcover, needed 11 more for #1. MN Transplant
This has to be one of the biggest model busts i've been involved in, went from a forecast of 12-20" to I doubt we even have 2 inches and the snow is done here. ECMWF caught onto this and was excellent last night had gfk at .50" of qpf for 0z while most models were in the 1.25-1.75" range. Dry air killed us and even at 12z the US models were awful for up here. I'm depressed ...... I would have bet my very limited savings on us getting at least 6 inches and would have failed miserably. There were sharp cutoffs in some of the models yesterday up by you guys, and GF definitely looked like it was right near the gradient line. For those not familiar with the area, these cities are all 20-30 miles south to southwest of Grand Forks. 0645 AM HEAVY SNOW NORTHWOOD 47.74N 97.57W 03/23/2011 E13.0 INCH GRAND FORKS ND PUBLIC 0640 AM HEAVY SNOW MAYVILLE 47.50N 97.33W 03/23/2011 E19.5 INCH TRAILL ND CO-OP OBSERVER 0700 AM HEAVY SNOW BUXTON 47.60N 97.10W 03/23/2011 E12.0 INCH TRAILL ND PUBLIC

snowstormcanuck
Initial WAA snow really spent most of its energy just to my west. Was coming down good initially but the last two hours has been mostly snizzle with intermittent bursts of somewhat more fulsome -SN. So far only 1.7". Hopefully the deformation zone snows will compensate.
