Nice to see the sun this morning after a washed out three day weekend. We had another thunderstorm last evening bringing the monthly total in my back yard to 7.96". This week has some good potential for more heavy rains, especially Wednesday.

Taking a quick look at local April records, HTS has blown by its April record precip which stood at 8.53". Farther east CRW has been missing a lot of the storms. They are still below their April record.

For the year I'm at 19.13" which is 6.24" above normal based on CRW's averages. HTS is 6.62" above normal for the year. It's been warm too, currently +5.7 for the month.

High of 88 today was a surprise.

There is a large outflow boundary from the storms in the eastern WV mountains currently heading west against the grain. I've never seen one so long before in my area. It stretches across almost the whole western part of WV. It passed through here a little while ago...didn't notice much change. It is sparking some storms along the way.

If no showers come in today with the passage of the low, MRB will finish with the 3rd wettest April since records began in 1926.

1952: 8.15"

1983: 7.79"

2011: 7.71"

1937: 7.34"

2008: 7.22"

For March and April combined, its also looking like 3rd place.

1993: 13.49"

1952: 12.04"

2011: 11.81"

1983: 11.60"

1984: 11.31"

At my station, I've recorded 8.56" in April, and 14.67" since March 1, which would both exceed #1 all-time at MRB.

Impressive totals on both ends of the state which is unusual. I'm at 9.32" for the month with the Davis gauge. I already know HTS broke their April record. I'm going to do a final check on the records tomorrow morning to see how CRW did...still getting a sprinkle from this cold flow today.

April Totals as of Saturday Morning

HTS - 9.98" - Broke record from 1901 - 20.69" YTD

PKB - 8.14" - Broke record from 1983 - 20.59" YTD

EKN - 7.06" - 2nd Highest April

CRW - 6.00" - 7th Highest April

My station recorded 9.32", 13.86" combined with March, 20.49" YTD.

April 2011 should be in the top 10 for warmth too at CRW, probably 7th place.

Thanks for the stats. Looks like May will begin wetter than normal here, with a front hung up across the region. Temps progged 60's the whole week for highs.

I'll bet your area continues warmer against average than mine for a while longer, as we haven't had any real extended warmth up here.
