Heavy rain and a squall front moved through between 3:30AM and 6:30AM. It put down a lot of water quickly, 0.97" as of 7AM. It continues to rain lightly with occasional moderate rates. I have standing water around the edges of the mulch beds. The wet conditions continue...grass is growing like crazy around here. If you don't cut every 3-4 days you will have a mess.

4.78" MTD

Dogwoods and redbuds bloomed this past week. Pears are fully leafed out.

By the way, it doesn't look like we're going to be able to maintain any nice/warm weather pattern any time soon. Monday and Tuesday both look iffy, Wednesday looks good with highs in the mid-upper 70s, but then we just cool off again. I'm just hoping for clear next Saturday as Blackwater NWR is beckoning me and the camera.

I ended up with 2.14" of rain this morning. Several small steams in the area went out of their banks, but nothing major. There is still a lot of ground water running off the sloping areas this afternoon.

MTD precip - 5.92" which is 4.34" above monthly normal.

My YTD precip is now 5.17" above normal using CRWs average. I don't recall being that far above normal in recent memory.

2.45" here today. Wet on both ends of the state at the same time. :drunk:

Unusual these past few years.

Yes, this system sure put down a lot of water even though it didn't look that bad from the radar returns. It must have been the way it trained northward as it slowly moved east. I had two separate heavy lines embedded in the yellows sweep through, one at 5AM and the other just before 8AM.

After running some errands later in the day I noticed how high the water got on the nearby streams. The little creek that runs through our subdivision was almost running over the road at the crossing. Where it dumps into the city reservoir it ran over Rt 34 leaving a lot of wood debri and mud on the road. A lot of places had gravel wash onto the road from the side ditches.

This pattern sucks!!!!!! Was looking like a nicer week a few days ago, but now clouds/showers every day this week, and temps below normal everyday except for Wednesday, where we go above normal for one stinking day. I would love to have a bunch of days in a row where it's sunny and no rain. Bleh.

SSWings often take time to mainfest in the AO/NAO ensembles. But those here thinking the +NAO would be upcoming were going to bust...when the SSW began showing up, all bets were off.

QBO should be going Easterly, so we should see more of this IMO, especially given the solar factor geomagnetically.

You could not have asked for a nicer day to "practice" your vid making. Your succinct scene titling need more flair. Instead of 'dogs running' embellish it by saying '3 dogs running while their liberal owners do nothing'.

The HD quality is very noticable. Good stuff.

Yeah it's a neat little cam.. Tiny actually. It's got pretty good quality for the price.. Carl Zeiss lens probably a big part of it. Yesterday was quite beautiful. And Dave, I knew it was a Heron. ;)

Been looking at maybe getting a little vidcam myself - what type/model is it?

It has really good reviews and it's literally a pocket size piece -- I was surprised how small it was when I got it. It's definitely below the quality of HD you'd get from a newer SLR that has vid etc, but it's not bad it seems. Has good low light capability as well, which was one reason I got it. I'll undoubtedly use it a lot around here but it was spurred on by wanting vid capability in the Plains in May.

Maybe there is something the Electric Powerplant could do? There is a powerplant about 1 mile downriver from me with a Dam on the potomac. The riverbank here is very high, so releasing less water may help the situation down there in DC/little falls.

I can see the river and most of the rocks usually exposed are covered completely.

Potomac is over the tow path at Harper's Ferry and continues about half way to Brunswick. no idea of how it looked after that due to the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs. it is the highest I've seen it since the 100 year flood in '96.

Hopefully, this won't be a recurring theme over the spring and summer - I like biking and walking the path, but mud and water ruin that.
