Southland Wx
The tsunami thing seems unlikely to me...unless there was some sort of catastrophic landslide somewhere offshore triggered by an aftershock or something?

OHSnow
It seems like we are getting a lot of conflicting reports on the new aftershock and possible new tsunami. The new explosion sounds initially similar to the one that happened in the other reactor. Just checked NHK. Latest reports say tsunami still going to occur or is occurring... the JMA was denying that a tsunami was generated based on the intensity of the earthquake, but it seems a tsunami has since been observed despite their denial. Maybe the big quake loosened the ground and the constant barrage of aftershocks caused some kind of landslide along the continental shelf?

Ian
I think I would rather trust a helicopter spotter rather then a news conference. everyone is really skittish.. fox is probably making up the undersea landslide since the quakes of recent dont seem to support a tsunami
Indystorm
If there was an undersea landslide generated tsunami it could have been seen by helicopter initially and then dissipated as reported before striking the coast depending upon the geographical and spatial extent of the landslide. HKY_WX
As always the truth lies near the middle. I'm just going to watch. I have no clue how any of this works. All I know is the reports on this are going to be sketchy. I mean, unless anderson cooper decides he should repel down into the reactor core to have a look I am skeptical.
