Damage In Tolland

Ok, I applied the first batch. Not sure if it will work but we'll see. Couple issues, The sprayer nozzle clogged, even with the filter removed. Also, it's kind of a pain in the ass to have to walk over the whole yard with a 2gal sprayer. I may have not done much to help the lawn since what I was doing was more of a topical spray as opposed to soaking it in. I'd like to do this but I need to have a chlorine filter and spray bottle setup on my garden hose to achieve this. The tea had a distinct fishy smell to it. It did not smell awful. I was also only able to cover about 3/4 of my lawn and it said that a 5gal batch will cover an acre. :arrowhead: I have like 7,000 sf of grass. Time to start thinking about my next batch. I will probably do one in another week or so.

Bob if you get a chance soak the lawn really well tom morning by hand with the hose, especially where you sprayed the tea!

Sorry I missed this. Yeah, I would love to but I'm worried about the chlorine in the city water killing all the good stuff I brewed up.

I would have sprayed the lawn down last night if I had a filter on the spigot. Trial and error I guess.

Zuke flowers absolutely exploded last night probably have about 5 zucchini growing now and about 10 male flowers.. they were all open this morning.. pretty nice sight

Also, the cucumber vines attached to that extended trellis last night which is good

Look at this zucchini I'm growing! I have about 3-4 just like this! The hand pollination really works with these. As soon as I took a Q tip to these they shot right up

I can pretty much guarantee you that would have happened even if you didn't bother to hand pollinate. That's what they always do.. they sit for a few days as like 1" long and then in 2 days they're ready to eat and 2 days after that you could use it as a club for bear hunting or reenacting primitive tribal warfare.

Wow, his zucchini are huge! Mine are blooming a lot but not fruiting yet, getting close though! SnowNH, did you plant those from seed or buy them as transplants?

My beans have been growing like that though...a few days ago I noticed the development of tiny baby beans, now they are almost ready to eat. I had one container of beans eaten by deer, but this bean patch in the ground near my corn has been doing well, touch wood. I am going to bring them to my parents' July 4th party in the Poconos, along with arugula, a few grape/cherry tomatoes, and an eggplant...going to impress everyone with my good gardening skills, er luck.

Maybe I will try this pollinating technique.

I planted all my squashes from seed, summer and winter. The zukes have a ton of flowers, though aren't fruiting yet, unlike the cukes which do have some small fruit setting. My yellow straightneck summer squash also appear to be doing well, though I'm losing track of what is what these days LOL.

I don't like this cold / windy night at all.. didn't water today with the rain last night.. will water first thing before work tomorrow since we have 100% clear skies for tomorrow

Yea, my girlfriend has zukes flowering but all males.. probably like 20 flowers

Checked my tomatoes today, I have 10 total forming as of now.. some are bee bees and some have the diameter of a quarter

It's weird: you'll have your first tomatoes a month after me but your first zucchini a month before me.

I still can't believe I have an eggplant ready to eat though. That's the real strange one.

I also can't believe your rate of growth...you did a small transplant in late May...I planted mine by seed the first week of May. Those things have been hauling for you!

I will make sure I get the pics tomorrow, in all seriousness. Had just totally forgotten. I want your opinion Skier on the corn, and this squash trellis. You'll probably have some insights into the situation. I meant to take these photos days ago. If I don't post pics, call my cell phone incessantly when I am working to force me to do it.

BTW, you should check out the Winter 11-12 thread...we are talking SE CT and need snowfall totals for storms and years from you. Did you get more than I in 04-05 or 08-09 Winters?

My small garden plods along... The tomatoes look very healthy and I finally have my first very small ones and a lot of flowers. I discovered a renegade "wild" tomato plant growing apart from the rest - must be one of my grape tomatoes from last year that took seed on its own this year. So that will be mystery until some fruit forms.

My vined plants (pumpkin and buttercup squash) are struggling along, but slowly. It has been too cool and at times wet for them I think. I plant a lot though as an insurance policy and if four decent plants from each thrive then you have a lot of yield.... So I think they will still make it ok assuming some July heat. I harvested my own seeds from last years crop so no $ at all was spent on whatever yield I get. LOL

I have one cabbage given to me by my niece and that is thriving ...loving this cool summer. :)

My garden sounds just like yours without the wild tomato plant - that is pretty cool. My peas and potatoes are doing great. The broccoli is doing pretty good. I bought some pepper, more brocoli plants, cauliflower, and eggplant plants 2? weeks ago and they are not doing too much. Hopefully some warmth soon will make some of this jump - the only thing heat is good for.

I had 2 deer hanging around my house this morning, I hope they didn't find the garden which is not visable from the house.

Looks nice...

I don't think you could ever maintain a perfect lawn like that around here with the wild field grass seeds constantly infiltrating. A good chunk of my planted lawn has given way to just natural grasses over six years. But anyway it looks neat when cut and I'm not Kevin with the perfect lawn fetish. :)

Tee Time anyone? Zoysia and organics are a match made in heaven.

Heavy heavy cukes, heavy heavy tomatoes, and heavy heavy peppers. Just a couple of more weeks perhaps until the first red tomatoes. I have cukes all over the place.

My tomatoes are really not doing so well. Our cherry tomato plant is ok, with numerous (green) fruit, but the bucket ones and ones in our garden were hit heavily by all the rain.

We usually get them all set in early-mid August

I planted mine in early May (in pots)...a bit early, but I wanted to get tomatoes in July. Let the soil dry out a bit. The tomatoes will look a little healthier. It may be that the leaves close to the ground and in the shade just rot off, but that's ok.
