moneypitmike
Will it be a total waste of time and money to put down fertilizer and seed on a level part of lawn today with the upcoming rain? 37.8/
TalcottWx
I don't have a lawn. Cement is dry and hard. That is all.
free_man
It was actually two trees from Kevs description, 450 in 2006 for one tree would be 550 2011 one tree with many prongs in the case I was talking about. One stump =one tree to me, maybe not to the tree expert. Actually it was not an oak, it was a maple in that case. They charged by the hour ...the tree was taken down pc by pc and she cleaned up afterwards... I think it was 60/hr labor, honestly they were getting more in '06 with a strong economy than now, with everyone desperate for work/jobs when no one is spending money. In general o, perhaps in the wealthy suburbs of NYC/ BOS etc they've increased wages and jobs? Otherwise tough market for small/smaller business all around. free_man
It was over my deck and stone wall on either side and avery narrow area of grass..with the septic tank almost directly underneath. It required climbing and roping almost to the ground..2 trees coming out of one stump. It was a hell of a deal Typically that is a $450-600 job total and they'd clean up a bit more nicely than you described. Just imo, considering you are in the 'burbs where people charge a bit more because they can, you paid near top dollar but $650 isn't outrageous at all. Johnno
Would be about 1k here from the local guy, but when they leave you never even know they were here, plywood everywhere to avoid ruts, divots, etc and leaf blowers/rakes at the end to clean everything up
HIPPYVALLEY
Pretty sweet dog! I just got back from the vet... I was taking my old german shephard to get euthanized, but she died in the car on the way there. I guess I was making the right decision. Sucks, but I guess the good news is that now my lawn will be much improved... So sorry to hear that! That's the hard part about pets. We generally outlive them. You gettin' another? Mr Torchey
Bump PERFECT day to fertilize, could not be better actually. As far as seed goes, make sure you till the soil at least a quarter inch spread it, then turn your spring rake over and drage it so the seed rests in the soil an 1/8 of an inch down, if your seeding on the side of a hill I would wait till tomorrow so it does not run off. Baroclinic Zone
Picked up some of this. I already use the Holly-tone and Plant-tone products from them so we'll see how it goes. I also picked up some of this. Six applications of this Spring/Summer/Fall for the next 2 years and I should be good with grub control for the next 10 years. Damage In Tolland
Deck is powerwashed ..3 hour job. I actually may not hae to stain it this year. So much of that black mold came off today. Just stuff that drips off the tree that is no longer here and molded the whole deck up. Would be the first year in the last 5 I haven't had to stain. Undecided at the moment

Thanks. It'll be easy to work on the areas down hill from the well wrt the ferilizaer, and I got the "safe" feritilizer for the rest. #NoPoles
can you test your own soil with a diy kit, or do i have to take a core and send it out to be tested? had the front lawn roto-tilled, topsoil brought in, and reseeded twice and the damn grass doesn't survive the winter... time to test the soil... Are you fertilizing at the minimum 3 times a year? New grass and newly established lawns MUST be fertilized. Otherwise they die. Damage In Tolland
That is a completely false statement 1 billion % incorrect Violently disagree. you don't fertilize a new lawn..pretty soon..you don't have one. moneypitmike
Got the fertilizer down--good stuff in the front near the well, not-so-good stuff down hill from there. Didn't get the seed in. Perhaps tomorrow for that. Did pick up a few apple trees, a few blueberry bushes and a couple rhododendruns. Now, I"ll need to start digging holes for transplanting. 38.7/

I was thinking the same thing, but then I figured Kevin would be pissed because undoubtedly I'd have left a lot of crap branches and stuff behind. I suspect his hired help were pretty good at getting that out of there. 38.3/
ski MRG
For 2 70foot Oak trees that are 70-80 yrs old? It was 2 Oak trees growing from one stump..so in essence 2 full trees. I think it actually was a very good deal. They had to climb and rope everything..couldn't just drop the trees because of my stone wall..and deck below. ? Thats cheap as hell, down here it would have been 1k+easy Did you guys grow up here in the U.S.? A square deal means an equitable price. Satisfactory for both parties.Geez.
