Euro keeps the Wed night/Thu wave flat and well south, and RH fields indicate that it is just a glancing blow to south coastal New England with too much dry air further north.

However, IMO it's more likely the wave ends up north of even where the GFS has it given the strong SE US ridge in place. HM mentioned this concern as well.

I actually saw the 4/7/03 analog being mentioned.

Plenty of snow for backcountry skiing from here up through VT. Just want it to hang on until I leave.

Pretty confident it will. High elevations of VT should at least hold most of the snow they have, if not add to it if we get lucky. Most of the snow is gone here in the Berkshire Valley in exposed areas, however wooded areas still have snow. Deciduous hardwood forests have about 2 to as much as 8 inches on average, although I was in a thick hemlock/white pine grove today and it was still nearly knee deep in spots, even though it's here in the valley.

Short and Sweet from my buddy Ry. You've just go a bad vantage point down there at sea level Scott. You need to be on higher ground.

No doubt Pete but you high grounders are in your own league. I mean....if I "could" ski this weekend I'd be on it in a hearbeat. Perfect conditions, tons of snow....it's ideal IMO. I'll probably hit it the following weekend.

You and I are like different planets. Phil is in his own orbit too even further out than me. You have the absolute extreme cold/snow position for most of what is really SNE, and I'm on the other side of the non-Cape warm crowd. We're both prone to extremes..... either way we've both had a terrific winter.

I think there's hope for one or two shots in the coming 10-14 days for both of us but I'll stand by the fact patterns have a way of getting away from us. In the 25 or so years I've seriously followed weather it almsot always seems to be the case that when a pattern breaks if we don't snap back within about 7-14 days we're cooked. The new pattern takes hold and it won't be denied. The last two years are a case in point. Leading up to the break we had a few events that looked warm that turned cold...but when the first one went "warm" they each went warm after that and then we were done. You, Jerry, Steve have probably seen the same thing as guys more "seasoned" than me.

Anyway no complaints....was a fun winter.

If you look past the setup, qpf, overall pattern, model guidance, global indicies, climo, common sense......the Euro has a great snowstorm next week. Lock it.

Ahh whatever happened to the glory days of tracking the weekly HECS in January... 14 users in the New England forum right now. 730am in January it was 140 users.

Yeah, at least 140. I think the problem is that your area, way up there in Vermont, is still in mid-winter shape (temps aside), while down here is no different than another planet . If the winter lovers all lived in Mt Stowe :D, there'd be more interest.

We are down to about 50% snow cover here...which is pretty incredible, considering the 2-3' glacier that was present just a month ago.

Should be some great Spring skiing, I'd love to get up to Jay or Burke in April or May.

Awoke to 55 nasty degrees out there. Around here though this may be the close to the high temperature as it should trend cooler certainly this afternoon. My max/min said 58 for a high yesterday, but that gets some sun now so I'd estimate mid 50s yesterday.

I was down in NYC all day for work and Springlike there - I even sniffled some so I guess some pollen is starting. :arrowhead:

These last few days have wiped out the snow cover on many fields so we are down to drifted areas, north facing etc. with about 75% bare ground.

The woods still have pretty good depth and that will survive this mild wx. I'll check the stake later.

What a beautiful day!!!!

ANother well above normal day in March, what a torch month its been. Cant wait to get out there in the dirt today.

LETS PLAY TWO!!

Yeah we are still around two feet on the ground here in town, but its old glaciated snowpack. Lots of brown snowbanks, etc. On paper its still mid-winter in terms of snowpack and cover, but it definitely looks like spring outside. Driveways are a mix of solid ice-pack and mud, and cars are generally filthy all the time. We are certainly moving into mud season and it is going to be a long mud season this year as we slowly melt the solid snowpack. Of course, the mountain up the road is a completely different world (38" on the ground at 1,500ft on Tuesday afternoon) but I never try to make comparisons between Vermont's highest (and one of the snowiest) mountains and the general populated regions. Spring skiing season will be going on for a long time now as there's 90" of snow at the stake at 3,700ft... and that is 90" that'll melt extremely slow (ie yesterday's high of 37F up there resulted in no change in snow depth).

Personally, I'm making the transition to spring now and after yesterday's 50F temps under full sunshine (felt like 80F after a long, cold NNE winter), plus the fact that its light out until after 7pm all the sudden, I'm ready for more sunshine and 45F. In the fall, 45F feels raw and chilly... this time of year it feels awesome.

Spring skiing FTW...this is the time for the locals to celebrate a great winter... google tans, rippin' snow bunnies, parking lot parties, live it up. St Patty's Day was just the start.

Really? It was 34 when I went out with the dog at 8am.

Overnight low of 30.5.

51F up here when I woke up. Looking at obs around here we were all over the place last night... one hour its 32F, the next its 45F, then 34F, then 50F. Every "calm" observation dropped the temp down into the mid 30s, then the next observation would have a light wind and it'd be mid 40s to 50F.

Yeah we were calm and clear at midnight last night. I'm in an ideal cool spot also due to a number of factors. All of the shallow puddles were skim coated with ice this morning so I was surprised when I looked at temps on the meso map.

I was 15 degrees wamer than you at 6AM 45F or so

Nice and calm out there now. We will actually be bringing the kids outside for the first time since November or so...

Extremely ugly where it has left though. Brown mildewed matted dead grass, stone strewn all over where I picked it up with the loader while plowing, etc... Even I will appreciate (for a few months LOL) the beauty of full on Spring such as in May, but first I see the work ahead of me making this place look decent again.

So many nuisance plowings along with the good events this winter - looks like I picked up half the driveway. :(

Down to 53.....

It's nasty in January and February. Not so much now. The snowpack has to go sooner or later.

Yeah, where my yard meets the street there is a bout a 4' wide swath of nasty sand, salt and other debris from the plows etc.

:axe:
