CoastalWx
Oh yea, heh. I'm sitting here wondering why the morning went by so fast and then a little reminder applet popped to let me know that human time convention just tried to extend our lives an extra hour into the future. Can you imagine a scenario - say some psycho was scheduled for death by lethal injection at 2:15 a.m. on the 13th of March, 2011. Then, it was 2:00 a.m., and suddenly it was 3:00 a.m., and thus her execution was stayed by the virtue of a time miss-handling. haha. Or, worse yet - suppose a presumed psycho was pleading for a stay of her execution, scheduled for 3:15 a.m., and her whole case was dependent on some late breaking piece of evidence that could/would exonerate her and completely absolve her as having any culpability in the death of a GOP politician. No one's paying attention at 2 a.m. when the clock system of the state is automatically adjusted for the time change, and then they glance up ... Okay, 15 minutes. That key piece of evidence is held by a single source, the attorney, who's out in the middle of east bum**** Alabama. "Oh shi - no, not now" - his battery dies on his cell phone, and he never bothered to get a cigarette lighter charger because for some reason, every time he tries replace the fuse that serves that feature it blows. Unbeknownst to him, the clocks all just changed; he's 1 hour of driving away from the Governor's office with that key evidence, but ... too late. I don't see why the NCEP system has to go by the time change. They should be able to keep the system scheduling the same regardless of the time change. Well 12Z is now at 8am and not 7am, so products have no choice, but to be delayed by an hour.
ski MRG
Yes, it was indeed. As was the April Fools' Day 1997 storm... I think those speaking so definitively that there will be no more snowstorms are in for a rude awakening.lol
MaineJayhawk
I'm quite ready for the melt. Was walking across the yard today pruning apple and plum trees and the snow was still up to my knees. Totally heavy corny water logged snowpack. At my stake 20 inches...and that hasn't moved in a week. Would like a warm stretch and some melting and then maybe a nice snowstorm or 2. Ready for spring though and beginning to plan the garden planting plan. 22" at the stake here. At least the ice dams have receded. I'm in no hurry for the snow to melt mostly because you can't plant until Memorial Day anyways. Good that the melt we've been having has been pretty slow up to this point. Rivers are running high but nowhere near to flood stage.

40/70 Benchmark
I'd agree if we are just talking about late season threats with a neutral or positive NAO. But if the NAO tanks negative then snow could occur anywhere even to the coast with one of these systems. The NAO is losing importance by the day, at this point. Mr Torchey
In fact, looking at the forecast (for my location) we get to 30 tonight, and thats it nights as well as days above freezing with mid to upper 50's thur and fri, I think it will snow where climo dictates and rain where its supposed to from here on out, too far along down here to revert to winter, bring on the bikinis. Hopefully ski country can cash in towards the end of the month, love April skiing.

Typhoon Tip
I remember well running around Jamaica Pond that Sunday in shorts and a t-shirt. But the month as a whole was cold and snowy vs climo even prior to the big event. True, but I think that the point in general is the "preceded by warmth" - regardless, perhaps, of length of time. One of my Met buddies mused once, "First it gets warm, then it gets cold - BOOM". I like that... I think we will find that statistically that is true more than half the time preceding historical events, there is a period of warmer than normal that is abruptly correct downward, then all hell breaks loose. So? what - then get up an hour earlier and lift the f ing sounding then, and do the model ingest and run time at 7 still - Time is what we make of it...We are not beholden to anything here but our own rules. Change the damn rules for the convenience of all and get up and hour earlier and earn their money imo

Trust me, my contention goes well beyond the confines of the view points amid the I-95 peoples. Beside, the "world" does not really honor our time changes system anyway. The point still stands - they need to run the system independent of that clock handling -
Logan11
I have a distinct memory of a day at the tail end of March in 1982 ...I'm outside in shirt sleeves getting ready to head off with my driver's ed class for our daily instructional drive. Unrelated, but the teacher always played Imus in the Morning on the car radio..first time I'd heard that. So then a week later the snow storm hits on April 6t h and we get 15 inches with a noon temperature of 18F and dry blowing snow like a mid Winter storm. School is closed for a couple days and even after we return for a few days I recall dodging snow drifts when traversing from one wing of the HS to another. So obviously it stayed very cold daytimes for a bit after that storm. Two weeks to the day after the storm it was 70F..... That was a great winter below ALB..we had like 97 inches. But I don't think March was snowy..certainly all the winter's snow was long gone. True, but I think that the point is general is the "preceded by warmth" - regardless, perhaps, of length of time.
