Anyone who speculates on snow chances is a complete denier and irrational to him. After all we live in New England where snow is a rare thing. 90" of snow later and a March sun angle later, he might finally have his wish of no more snow for any of us.

De Nile is a river in Egypt.

What you guys choose to do with your spare time is totally up to you. When I read old pros stating winter is mostly over and see one 5+ day shot after another go nw.... I side with their thinking. One event aside, 35-40 days with only a few inches to show for it in Boston (aside of the one fluff event) speaks for itself. It's the length of time that it took for the acceptance of what was a massive pattern change that surprised me, not the speculation of events that mostly didn't happen. That's weather and many progged events don't play out as planned.

I'd like to see one more big snow appear out of nowhere. Kids would enjoy it now that they are not spoiled by constant snow like earlier in the year. At the same time it's 50 plus again and beautiful outside.

Far more serious world matters underway for me than worrying about whether it'll be 53 and windy versus 49 and breezy. But to each his own. I like johns honesty and ability to be introspective....I found what he wrote fascinating and refreshing. I think he may have missed his calling as an author. Again though to each his own.

Walking under the entrance to Federal Hill in Providence last night I was struck by the number of people out in light or no jackets. The mild 40 degree night and sliver of a moon coupled with a gentle breeze could have made the evening easily pass for April. After dinner the walk back passing Trinity....brown and pc students all around and the leftover bruins crowd....everyone was out enjoying a great night. I love this time of year.

I don't understand his perception that everyone is gung-ho on more snow and any voices of dissent will be met with great resistance.....all we have been talking about is how winter ended too early.

LOL. I'm the only one left. Maybe Logan11. Got some snow this AM. Just hiked in and skied a few circuits on my favorite local stash.

The wx has been pretty nice and hopefully continues deeper into the Spring.. Dafodils popped up last Wednesday (to my wife and in-laws amazement), already 4" tall here along the house - admist 4-12" of pretty consistent snowcover.

Ahem, I still have full coverage thanks in part to my neighborhood being 2nd only to you in it's ability to hold snow due to location (elevated, small river valley) and shading.

I can easily let winter go but until then I had the snow shoes on and needed them hiking the ridge behind the neighborhood today. Still 12"+ in spots.

Here comes Pete to tell us about how there is no sign of Spring on the east slopes.

Well, certainly we've lost snow but enough remains that Winter activities continue. The Sugarbushes are producing and a lot of friends are busy with that. Most are tending lines on snowshoe or by snowmobile. The old work truck at the entrance to one of the areas I ski has been a good gauge for snow depths. Two pictures about a month apart. You can probably tell which one was taken an hour ago.

Snow pack still hanging on for dear life here, especially in the woods where it still averages 6-8 inches deep. Some protected, shady areas are still close to a foot. Many exposed areas now have bare spots.

I'm still holding out hope we'll see at least another decent snow event in these parts before spring rolls in for good, especially since the GFS is looking somewhat blocky beyond D10.

Pretty nice, what is your depth there? Looks like a solid 12-18" pack still there. Is this near 2K? I had a coating of snow here this morning as well, which melted.

What a different world from the berks to here!

Snow has been gone for 10 days +

oak and charcoal on a slow burn, cherry stones and mussels almost ready, I prefer the oysters raw and cold and love to shuck them and drink cold beer while I watch the fire take its sweet time.

No flowers here yet. Grass is greening though in a few spots...couple week time lapse later this week on the grass thread.

I hope ski country hangs in.

Ray. For a couple of weeks all that those of us saying the pattern had changed heard was insults and proclamations of an impending change to sustained winter. There was talk that it was a normal break. Brutal at times actually and quite often insulting toward birving (I distinctly remember a very personal exchange between a few of you that went totally unmoderated) and others. Any talk of non winter was usually met with some type of insult. 4-5 weeks later and one real fluff event in sne..... I'm quite certain if those saying winter was going to storm back were actually right we would never hear the end of it.

This excludes skimrg. He is in as different a climate as is ackwaves from most of us.

The emotional attachment many have to snow will always sku the discussion towards cold talk. I think I'm accepting that now. On the same token the hostility towards those that don't think every situation is a blizzard or every upcoming pattern a mini ice age was strange to me. But like I said I don't think I grasped how much weather influences the moods of some. Been an interesting winter.

I was talking about those still calling for snow.lol Glad you still have snow down in the valley. It's fine that those that have lost their snow are ready to embrace Spring. I just think they are getting lulled into a false sense of security. I believe we haven't seen the last widespread snowfall. Had one of the best powder days of the season Monday. If you want to keep Winter going it's not very hard to find the snow. I just think there are many that profess a love of Winter and snow that actually grow tired of it after a few weeks. Then there are those of us that are truly invested.lol

I'm not even Berks just foothills that lead down to Greenfield proper and the valley. Even the downtown neighborhoods (3 mi.) have much less of a snow pack.

Being 16 miles from VT helps. Latitude FTW.

Hey if I had that, I would be too...lol. Just wish March would deliver. Kind of a bummer.

As Will told me at the Northampton GTG this area is much tighter and hillier than the rest of the Ct Valley so it's not really fair to compare it to places south of here.

Hi Mitch, the truck is at about 1400' . The 2k site actually has a bit more as you'd expect. Not sure about exact depth but 12-18" in exposed areas sounds about right. I tend to try to ski North facing slopes and the coverage is still quite deep 24+" easily. The sun is starting to "cup" snow on the south faces. It was pretty this morning with the falling snow and the fresh whitening. I'll be shocked if we don't catch another decent snowfall.

I think it's hard around here, when you have many different climates. Yes I didn't have a snowy month after 2/2, but it was cold with some light events capped off with a nice ending of 4.5" so it wasn't all that bad. Down by you, February was a little more hostile, and further nw out by ORH and especially Pete...winter held on even more. I certainly don't agree with winter being over for many after 2/2.

I will admit that I thought March would be a lot better. Even when I was throwing up caution flags during February, I didn't think March would be this useless. Models were just too aggressive with weakening the -PNA and the writing was on the wall towards the end of Feb and esp beginning of March.

Maybe we get something towards late month, but I wouldn't lock in anything like that. Perhaps out by Pete, or even Will, sees some sort of snow event. We'll see....I'll always look for something during the month of March.

LOL, March is a Winter month regardless. It is strange to have a been shut-out recently but the month is far from over. WTF is up with AK, it's cold and dry!!! Need to get some big snow going there as well.

Not until later next week, but I don't see any huge storms yet.

You're an honest guy and I like that. I think march is turning out to be less snowy than we ALL thought. I was on the way conservative side but if someone asked me on 2/5 I'd have thought at least two more moderate or better events in sne plus a couple of other light to moderate in between warmth. The warmth is what I expected the total lack of meaningful snow in between surprised me. I was wrong/too optimistic too. An event in ten days or two weeks wouldn't count in my own self analysis. I expected the 2/15 to 3/15 period to have these potentials not a freak late season hit.

Weatherma...met spring began 12 days ago there too :)

The graphical forecast for the next 6 days looks entirely normal. 4 days at or just above normal, 2 below but no great variations either way. Maybe a normal, non extreme spring is possible.

I wasn't necessarily expecting an epic month, but i figured climo would be almost a lock. It's not even mid month yet so we can't claim anything, but it's worrisome to say the least. With a good high in place, late season events can occur even down by you. I'm just tired of these March fails.

Who are you referring to....most of us knew that the run was ending in early Feb, though I expected us to see more additional snow than we have.
