MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0207

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

0546 PM CST TUE MAR 08 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN TX...LA...SRN MS

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 42...

VALID 082346Z - 090045Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 42 CONTINUES.

...TORNADO THREAT CONTINUES ACROSS MUCH OF LA AND SRN MS. A LONGER

TERM THREAT WILL NECESSITATE A NEW TORNADO WATCH BETWEEN 01-02Z...

WARM SECTOR IS GRADUALLY SPREADING NORTH ACROSS WW42 WITH 70F SFC

DEW POINTS NOTED SOUTH OF WARM FRONT. THIS WARM FRONT HAS SERVED TO

FOCUS A FAIRLY LARGE MCS WITH A SOMEWHAT DISORGANIZED MCV LIFTING

ENEWD AT ROUGHLY 25KT OVER MARION COUNTY MS. NUMEROUS CELLULAR

UPDRAFTS AND ISOLATED EMBEDDED SUPERCELLS HAVE EVOLVED WITHIN THE

LARGER THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX. THIS ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY

SHIFT EAST OF THE WATCH ACROSS SRN MS WHERE BOUNDARY LAYER HAS YET

TO RECOVER SIGNIFICANTLY. WITH TIME THE WARM FRONT SHOULD GRADUALLY

LIFT NWD ALLOWING MARITIME TROPICAL AIRMASS TO ENHANCE THE PROSPECT

FOR SFC-BASED SUPERCELLS.

UPSTREAM...NEW UPDRAFTS HAVE RECENTLY DEVELOPED ALONG THE LOWER

SABINE RIVER REGION AND THESE STORMS ARE GRADUALLY MATURING AS THEY

SPREAD NEWD INTO WRN PORTIONS OF WW42. THIS AREA IS NOT

PARTICULARLY FOCUSED/CONVERGENT BUT AIRMASS IS VERY MOIST AND

SUFFICIENTLY SHEARED FOR A CONTINUED TORNADO THREAT.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

0633 PM CST TUE MAR 08 2011

VALID 090100Z - 091200Z

...THERE IS A MDT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF LA/MS...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS THE ARKLATEX AND LOWER

MS RIVER VALLEY...

...ARKLATEX...

A SEMI-DISCRETE SUPERCELLULAR MODE...INCLUDING A RISK OF LARGE HAIL

AND A TORNADO OR TWO...WILL GRADUALLY YIELD TO A

CONGEALING/INCREASINGLY LINEAR MODE AS THE SOUTHEASTWARD ADVANCING

COLD FRONT OVERTAKES THE DRYLINE. DAMAGING WINDS AND AN ISOLATED

TORNADO RISK WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE ARKLATEX VICINITY THIS

EVENING....WHILE SOME RISK FOR HAIL MAY EXIST WITH ELEVATED TSTMS IN

AR NORTHEAST OF THE SURFACE WARM FRONT.

...LA/MS TO SOUTHERN AL/FL PANHANDLE...

A SOMEWHAT SEPARATE AND POTENTIALLY GREATER AREA OF CONCERN WILL

REMAIN ALONG A RAIN-REINFORCED/SLOW NORTHWARD RETREATING WARM

FRONT...SOUTHWESTWARD INTO THE ADJACENT WARM SECTOR ACROSS LA TO

SOUTHERN MS/SOUTHWEST AL. AS HEIGHT FALLS BEGIN TO INFLUENCE THE

REGION TONIGHT...AND HELP ABATE A WARM LAYER ALOFT AS PER THE 00Z

LAKE CHARLES LA OBSERVED RAOB...INCREASING LOW LEVEL CONFLUENCE/FLOW

WITHIN THE LOWEST FEW KM WILL FAVOR SURFACE-BASED/POTENTIALLY

ROTATING STORMS NEAR THE WARM FRONT AND WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR. WITH

0-1 KM SRH OF 500 M2/S2 ALREADY REFLECTED BY THE 00Z OBSERVED

SLIDELL LA RAOB AND LIX WSR-88D VWP DATA...A NOCTURNAL ENHANCEMENT

OF THE LOW LEVEL JET WILL PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL BOOST TO LOW LEVEL

HODOGRAPHS...WITH ELONGATED/CURVED LOW-LEVEL HODOGRAPHS AND 0-1 KM

SRH ON THE ORDER OF 400-600 M2/S2. GIVEN THE MAGNITUDE OF LOW LEVEL

SRH IN THE PRESENCE OF GRADUALLY INCREASING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE /MID

TO UPPER 60S F SURFACE DEWPOINTS/...THE POSSIBILITY OF

TORNADOES...INCLUDING A RISK OF STRONG/SIGNIFICANT TORNADOES...WILL

CONTINUE WELL THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT AND EARLY MORNING HOURS OF

WEDNESDAY.

The southern storm is now taking over now as the dominate storm out of that cluster near DeRidder, LA and has a really nice reflectivity gradient on the south side of it. The cell to its immediate north has now weakened after going up and attempting to spin but couldn't do it. Lets see if this one does the same thing.
