I was waiting for this thread. I thought about it last night.

One of my greatest storms ever. I lived in Rockingham County at the time where the jackpot fell.

March 5th, 2001 was my first day of work in my first real weather job. What a way to start that was. I lived in Leominster at the time...what a month.

That was your first day?? LOL, wow. You had some good stories from Leominster. Those tstm stories were classic..lol.

Anyways, I was sort of disappointed for my area, but it was expected. I remember how bad the modeling was. I remember models had been burying DC except for the euro, I believe. It ended up not quite phasing perfectly, but just enough to send a ribbon of s+ over the areas near and north of the Pike.

I remember it started as some lighter snow on the 4th, an inch or two by morning then some pounding sleet during the morning daylight hours on the 5th. A break in the afternoon with nothing falling then the new low popped sending a swath of moderate snow overhead, steady snow til 2 or 3 AM then with more intermittent snow continuing through most of the 6th. I had 13.2" with a w.e. of 1.98"

I geeked all out for that storm. I took a lot of video...I set up my camcorder on the bed pointed at TWC on the tube so I could tape Kocin (didn't have vcr set up yet). Still have it. I may have to show it to him when I see him at the NESC next weekend, lol. :weenie:

Brian was in the area that got destroyed. I remember the radar just having a ribbon of moisture over the area and being very jealous...lol. Memories of Dec '92 all over again. I ended up changing to snow on the 6th and getting about 7" or so.

Well I don't blame you one bit. That was an incredible storm.

What a time for you to move to Leominster. Do you remember the 8-10" you got about 3 days later?? You must have been in heaven. There was a bowling ball that moved out of PA and dumped on you guys again.

yeah, I drove to the northeast storm conference (saratoga) in it. My friend had a 1991 Grand Marquis...what a boat...it was interesting climbing the berks in that thing.

Oh, I remember that story..lol. Nothing like rear wheel drive with 90% of the weight in the front. My first car was an '83 Grand Prix which used to spin it's tires just idling, so I know what that is like.

I remember that we had a couple of big storms back to back and my boiler died in the middle of it all. No access to the bulkhead, what a clusterf*ck getting the new one in the house. Had to wait until April to get the old one out of the basement. Other than that, it was agreat stretch up here. Snowmobiled into April.

I live in Nottingham and that was the single greatest snowfall I have ever seen. feet of snow on the ball fields, baseball started 3 weeks late that year.. Above ground pool was buried, nearly 52" OTG!. I was at work for most of the storm and had to bring some folks home, i had dodge ram. I remember heading from exeter to portsmouth in rain, changed for a period before going back to snow, and going over the general sullivan bridge heading to dover and it turning to white conditions. By the time I got home to Nottingham the snow was just over the bumper on my ram. Took me almost 1/2hr to shovel enough snow so my truck would get down far enough to hook up the plow. I had my old deck collapse and part of my old barn roof cave in. Needless to say i push the snow much further back just in case of another winter like that. Oh.......the good old days :snowman:

Fasting melting 2'+ of snow ever. Gone in like 5 days

March '01?

You must be confusing that with some other storm because that snow pack was up to about 4 feet after that storm and it didn't melt until the middle of April. Mar '01 failed to hit 50F the entire month at ORH.

There was actually another snow storm about 3-4 days after it on Mar 9th. Dropped about 6-8" of snow.

Fro some reason I started thinking about the April Fool's '97 storm...that was gone in 5 days.

This other one, yeah, it stuck around for a while. Duh...

I think the next couple weeks were on the warm side through. Keene was into the 40's and I think hit 50 once.

But the snow definitely wasn't going anywhere fast. I remember there was a streak of 80+ temps at the end of April. I was playing baseball, with still massive piles of snow by the dugouts lol!

Cool website

Yes...great website indeed. It has the stats from a much hyped February 1988 storm that tracked farther nw than originally anticipated. I was telling all my 5th grade classmates coastal RI would be getting a huge snowstorm...I think I may have been saying "Big Winter incoming, bit winter.." I believe the event occurred on a Friday and I didn't go to school because we only had a coating of snow and I ended up watching Channel 7 cover Boston's high impact 6 inches of snow before it changed to rain...And I spent the rest of the afternoon watching coverage of the 1988 Prez. campaign and Dukakis on CNN.

It got "warm" between Mar 15-20 time frame, but it was still only 40s and I think there were a lot of cloudy days in there too. Snow pack didn't take too big of a hit and then there was a sting of 2 or 3 more snow events before April 1st.

Exactly, I remember even in Randolph, we had patchy snow cover into early April and piles lasting 'til at least 10 April.

March '01 is in the top 3 for best winter months I've ever experienced.
