HurricaneJosh Posted March 19, 2011 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Wow-- that's great. Good find. I love these old newsreels-- how dramatic they get with the music and the announcer's script. Also interesting is the announcer's odd pronunciation of the word "hurricane": he calls it a "hurrycane"-- a "tropical hurrycane". You get the impression the word wasn't widely used then-- that there was something slightly exotic about it, perhaps. I notice that really old MWR issues-- like from early in the last century-- sometimes refer to hurricanes-- even very severe ones-- as "tropical disturbances"-- which is course funny given how the term has an entirely different meaning now.
