MARCH

Thanks Will. What a horrible winter for the south coast. New Bedford on east did a lot better because of a big event that dumped 9-12 inches that spared just about the entire area if my memory serves me correctly. It's funny...when I was a kid I could remember just about every snow event no matter how small. But in some winters including recent ones the events get real fuzzy.

Do you have kids? That's what did me in... I really think so...

I enjoyed it pepsi.gif

You had a blockbuster Feb/Mar/Apr while here it was merely "great"....however you still shared our misery in the absolutely putrid Dec/Jan. That really is impossible to overcome. I love to have snow during the holiday season and in January when its dead of winter. To have people golfing in the Worcester hills in January and wearing tshirts in December was deplorable.

Well even if this March sucks, it was nice to make it into March with 2 feet on the ground for once. I think this is the first time since 2005 we've even had 20"+ on the ground in the month of March. 2007 had a torch before the St. Pattys day storm so that was working from nearly bare ground.

Strongly agree about snow for the holiday season. But I still loved that comeback. Just a beautiful huge massive pattern change in January.

You still have 20" on the Ground? God I hate you Will. I'm ready to go below 10". Many spots are bare.

Yep...but the clock is ticking if we can't somehow get snow out of the next system from the 2nd wave.

I was in Newton/Arlington all day and there is a tremendous amount of snow gone since I was there 2 weeks ago.

Driving RT 2 I could really see the snow start to thin out east of Gardner. (Drove through some good snow squalls coming home)

Greenfield is relatively low compared to the surrounding areas (although we are only 15miles from VT) and everything around here is still encased in white. I'd say 8"-16" average.

This time of year really starts to show the differences between the CP and the far interior

So Will - Was that Fence almost Covered when you had 36" Max?

Yeah it actually was covered when we hit our high of 37-38" depth. I took a pic of it back when the snow depth was about 33-34". I wish I would have taken a pic when it maxed out though.

I wa sso exhausted after the Feb 1-2 event that I just didn't get out and take pics after it. But I did take these a bit less than a week later when some of melted from the Feb 5-6 event and the mini torch on Feb 7th.....these pics were actually taken on Feb 7th evening

Very cold out there. Down to 13F...feels like mid winter again with the wind and cold with even a little dusting from tonight's snow showers swirling around on the snow/ice pack.

We're gonna have to deal with some rough times though I think over the next week...but hopefully we can pull a rabbit out of our hat with the 2nd wave of the next system but right now its a long shot.

What in the blue fook are you talking about? I never said a single thing about DT's call being wrong. Go find me a quote otherwise don't say ridiculous statements like that.

You have this preconceived notion that I was saying we'd see the January pattern continue, lol. I'm not sure where you are getting it from. Maybe you have me confused with someone else. I probably would not have made a thread on February 5th about a big torch coming in mid-month if I thought the January pattern would continue. Your argument makes zero sense to me.

It was a warm finish to the month there in your BY. It was average to even below average temps in most other areas. Final 21 days at BDL was -1.6F and at PVD it was -0.9F with slightly below avg snow at BDL and solidly below average snow at PVD. BOS/ORH were slightly below avg temps and average snow the final 21 days of the month. You are what your record says you are...you can believe what you want though.

Here's a thought...go have some fun with friends. Maybe mingle some, a couple of drinks with the old lady, a nice dinner, whatever. I was poking at you AGAIN in good fun and you flipped out.....AGAIN. It's the weather Will, and you take it WAY too seriously. I understand it's your job but it's cold and clear out. Surely you could find some entertainment tonight instead of being online talking about really nothing for the next ten days but warm and wet...cold and dry. Sure we really got bured after 2/7 or so.....but in reality it was a suck balls February after those first few systems and unless 3/8 materializes, it's a blowbag March. Those are the facts....DT said 4 weeks ago what most here won't be comfortable saying until 3/10.

Scott, solid Winter never left here. You've seen the pics I post. Does it look like Winter has been on hiatus? Working/playing outside from sun-up to sun down everyday (sometimes at night) I can tell you for sure it hasn't been. Above average snowfall here and nights with double digit negatives for February, even BOS came in -1.0 for the month. How much would you wager on New England not seeing another Major snowfall before the season is out? Personally I wouldn't bet a dime because the odds aren't that good.

Pete believe me I understand. I'll be skiing my balls off all weekend. But for a lot of SNE it's been mediocre since 2/5-2/10 which was my point all along. First winter was coming back 2/20, then 2/28, then 3/2 and now 3/15. For most it ain't coming back period.....two years in a row. We may get lucky and get the big dump but this pattern sucks hard and most boston TV mets agree. Yet we still have the "woulda coulda shoulda'" folks here.

I was in Pittsburgh most of today. No question about snow cover there....none to be found other than the odd tiny pile of left overs.

Sucks. Sucked as a whole all winter out there. Been there 3 times in the last 45 days.

I totally disagree. Climo does not suggest that winter ends on the CT Shoreline in early February. Unfortunately global weather patterns sometimes overrule historical averages. February through the first 10 days of March is historically an extremely active time snow wise for the South Coast and the outer Islands.

Exactly. In a normal winter we'd have had a few good shots of big snows 2/5 to 3/15...not this year, not last year. Sucks.

Todd G. (Gutner, not Gross) on WBZ says bye bye winter for now

A brief shot of Mid-Winter cold will move in tonight ushered in by gusty NW Winds…some serious cold air advection will take place with a near 40 degree temp drop from the high today (48) to the low tomorrow morning! The frigid start will be tough to rebound from, in fact both the GFS and NAM MOS data spit out highs of 21 and 22 respectively! This seems a little low for my liking and we had this problem last week with the models short-changing us with temps. We’ll have full sunshine and a downsloping NW wind so I’m thinking upper 20s for Boston…28. This thinking is supported by the 850mb temp of -13 degrees C. If we can get through tomorrow, we are pretty much set for a week or so…a warming trend begins on Friday with Spring-like temps and conditions for the weekend and beyond. Highs in the 50s over the weekend with a slow-moving rainmaker for the end of the weekend and early next week could deposit well over an inch of rain! Behind the system, a trough will be digging in the West…so we’ll see rising heights and mild air…no prolonged Winter weather for the first two weeks of March!

And that basically is what we've been saying here......and let's face it after 3/14 the odds spiral down.

Logan Airport averages 43 inches of snow a year. Has there been a winter over the last 30 years where Logan had exactly 43 inches? Average is just a range. Sometimes winter (snow-wise) ends in early February on the south coast, a few winters every ten years it never really begins. That's what makes it fun because we never really know what to expect .

DT does deserve credit for recogizning the pattern change before most folks....but he really busted for eastern NE with that norlun trough that hammered most of CT except Ginx.

DT deserves a ton of credit. He gets **** on a lot, he was dead on and got reamed by many or at LEAST not defended by many of the pros here with his call here in early February. I think his powerpoint hammers home why he was right, bravo Dave, bravo.

No kids yet....too self-absorbed. If and when I do I'll be a good parent, but in order to be a good parent like you'll attest to....it takes a tremendous amount of effort.

More effort than I ever realized. Kids are hard.

Strongly agree about snow for the holiday season. But I still loved that comeback. Just a beautiful huge massive pattern change in January.

2 of the last 2 years have had a white christmas here. If that's the only winter we get I'm thrilled. I'll probably go 10 years without one now.

Scott, looks to me like you were wrong about what he said and when he called you out, you chose to go off on a tangent about his plans for the night.

One thing is for certain, Will doesn't flip out.

Once I gave some links and hard data, it was him "poking at me in good fun and I flipped out". Meanwhile his post I responded to sounded anything like a joke. He told me I was "spinning everything and bashing DT's forecast" to paraphrase when I never made a single post regarding DT and I even made a torch thread over 10 days before it happened. I guess I only talk about snow and cold patterns when you eliminate the thread where I talked about a big mid-month warmup. If you eliminate that, then I was wrong, we'll put that in the records.

I'm not here to start fights, I'm here to talk weather like this board should be. I often focus on potential snow because most of us like snow, so we look for ways on how it could work out.

Grow up Will. You take pictures of snowbanks while the rest of us are interacting with friends. That's what your record says you are. I was screwing with you in good fun and you called me out like a spurned kid. Everyone else realized it was a joke but not you. I was joking with you for christ sake and as usual you've got to make Custers last stand.

Not a tangent, just an observation. Lifes too short which you well know, all of this "noise" is just that...irrelevant. What are we fighting over again...whether I was right when I said the endless snow was over and we'd be "some warm, some cold"...or endles big big winter?

When you walk down the middle of every road you're going to get run over at times. You can only straddle the median for so long.

Will made a thread heralding the torch and I made a bet with Jerry favoring snowfall futility for the duration of the month.....not sure what your point is.

Not sure why you are going personal with Will, but no need to pull a BIrving, Scott.

If it was a joke, fine, but it was a pretty valed humor.

It actually seems like the opposite.

As for telling me to grow up and get a life....isn't that the irony?

I have a life and a wonderful girlfriend who everyone who shows up at GTGs has met and they have met me as well. I went out last Friday with Coastalwx and Ray and discussed weather over some beers...that is good life for me as well as visiting my GF at least 4 days per week up in N Chelmsford. Maybe that isn't a good life to you, but it is to me, so you can keep the personal garbage out of it.

Not every perception of a "good life" is what you think it is and not every perception of February 2011 goes by what happened in the Cranberry Bogs of SE MA.

I wouldn't have even dignified that crap with a direct response...no need.

I wish folks could keep the person crap out of here....guess what, taking pics of snowbanks and sharing them is what this place is for.....if you don't want to discuss that, then peace.

Apparently taking pics of snow banks on February 7th and posting them weeks later (after they were posted that night) is me being a total loser on a Wednesday night on Mar 2nd. What a low life response.

Here were the quotes that I responded to...people can judge them for themselves

Will you've been talking about a return to winter since the first day it got warm. I've had more days over 50 than I've had days with snow...it's always a few days away.

But you still try to spin that the pattern didn't break and that DT was wrong. Fact is he schooled most of you with his bold prediction. He was right, the pattern broke. He called it early too, he didn't sit around and wait until weeks passed.

I've said since early February we'd be in an up and down pattern..some cold, some warm, some snow some rain. Yet there's been repeated calls for a return to solid winter which just hasn't happened...nor will it this winter for all the reasons DT outlines in his PPT.

Give him credit, he was bold enough to call it like it was.

I responded to those quotes with temp data for all the SNE climo sites and then posted that I a made a thread about the mid-Feb torch over 10 days before it happened and then I called out for taking a joke too seriously.

Oh and I also posted to show me a link where I mentioned DTs February call. None to be found.

I never jump into an argument, and you're a terrific dude and a great poster, but this can't be totally serious, right? This is a weather discussion board.

You're on here posting 8 updates every ten minutes on the status of the RUC compared to local radar and trends over Southern New England during every snowstorm which involves even a prayer of scraping your area.

Singling out Will for taking pictures of snow is pretty idiotic.
