CoastalWx
I don't know how the hell it survived. It was 50 with 2+ inches of rain and roraring sou easterlies all night 33.6 now The snow is glaciated..very icy and takes a lot of energy to melt it. When I saw how much my folks had after two torches, I figured your snow should have some staying power.

Damage In Tolland
51 at ORH. Longitude FTW, in your case. Pretty amazing. I still can't believe where the front stalled last night..Literally on the Tolland town line to the west
butterfish55
Amazing reading the rainfall amounts out west since I got only .24" of rain here overnight. 53.4/52 The snow is gone now except for the shadey areas.
CoastalWx
I still can't believe where the front stalled last night..Literally on the Tolland town line to the west Yeah that was modeled fairly well...the front stalling. I thought it may sneak by ORH, but ended up staying just to the west.
CoastalWx
It looks like models try to get more interesting just after mid month, but I feel like models have been too cold in the 11-15 day...only to trend warmer. We'll see. They do try to show some higher heights up in nrn Canada.
MainePhotog
Incredible rainfall overnight. As of 0800, two day total rainfall is at 3.50". I can not believe the amount of snow left on the ground after all of this rain. Backyard, facing east, depth is 12" - 16". Front yard, facing west, depth is 8" - 12". I should say part of front yard is flooded. Picture below is a grab from my weather station software.

I was in the mid-40s for most of yesterday with snow-eating ground fog (pretty dense in areas - under 100 yd vis) and figured snowpack would be reduced to under 20" but evidently that sleet storm we had last week provided a shield. I'll be able to walk on it tonight as we plummet to the single digits for overnight lows. Lots of standing water on the roads today, and with temperatures falling as the day progresses it may turn into an interesting evening commute, though the road crews will have all day to spread sand. Perhaps a couple inches o' snow with the next system before it, too, turns to rain. That time of year, just have to accept it.
CoastalWx
Yeah I'd say there is a front..lol. Look at that gradient near the ma/nh border up by Lawrence. Also ORH 48 while PSF is 21F.

I was actually shocked when I woke up this a.m. to see that we retained as much snow cover here as we did. Yesterday's high here was 47.9°F with heavy fog for most of the day. powderfreak
The amount of snow on the ground now is pretty nuts. This is dense, base-building snow and a lot of it. There's gotta be over 2" of liquid as snow so far. 17" at 1,500ft 24" at 3,000ft

moneypitmike
The power of true snowpack. That and not getting 3" of rain at 50F+. .75" here at 44-45. 1.9" at 31-34. Now at 28.6/
moneypitmike
I wonder how much ZR, MPM received. Not much, Scott. Just a glaze. Suspect further west (Charlemont/Hawley/Rowe) had more ice as there's a 2-hour delay for my daughter.

I think temps were borderline for you, so that probably cut back on accretion..as did the heavy rain. Still quite the temp contrast, but now the colder air is rushing east. wxmanmitch
Nothing is more painful than missing a 20"+ storm by a matter of 50-60 miles or so. Mid-30s and heavy rain all night transitioned to a light ZR, IP before changing a light SN earlier this morning. Minor glaze now getting coated by some snow showers with nice dendrites on the southern edge of the comma head. 23.0 degrees. This is about as bad as the pattern can get right now save for the 01-02 winter disaster. Given the strong Nina, this is the pattern I was anticipating we'd be in for the better part of the cold season. It's just that our friend the -AO stayed around about a month longer than many mets thought it would, giving us the great run through early Feb. We'll see if cutoff low season can dish up a nice surprise a la April Fools 1997. That's pretty much our last hope for SNE. March sucks...

bobbutts
Interesting thing is despite the rain last night not much additional damage, two nights ago seemed to do much worse things to the snowpack. About 18" still on the ground.
Logan11
11.5 inches as of now. Still moderate snow and lots of blowing, 19F. But I do see the end is quite near on radar.... Have had zr all morning. HoarfrostHubb
8.5" otg this morning. Did not melt nearly as much as I thought last night. Temps in Hubbardston have dropped quite a bit. 34.1F after being 42 or so a little while ago.

klw
Best I could tell we have up to 26 inches on the ground. There was quite a bit of drifting with this storm and my dog was running around in the back last week so finding an undisturbed accurate area to measure is getting tougher. Logan11
HAH sure why not.... want to beat last years 99". About 10" of the old stuff survived back in the sheltered area where I measure. But in the fields we had a few grass patches.....long gone now. Puts you up into the mid 90s for total. 100" or bust!

CoastalWx
The radar composite corresponds to the dryslot nicely. Notice how the best lift and moisture is with the deformation area and mid level frontogenesis over near Burlington VT and also with the WCB near and just east of Caribou. klw
Do we think the deformation area will rotate through northern VT or will it die out/ move north and avoid the east side of the Greens?
CoastalWx
Do we think the deformation area will rotate through northern VT or will it die out/ move north and avoid the east side of the Greens? It will probably get the BTV area the hardest, but I would think it still give areas east of the Greens some snows.
