Next storm on the list, March 6-7

Typhoon Tip

Lost a few more inches of snow overnight by the looks of things ...strong south winds and fog blowing across the remaining snow this morning. No way there's any snow left tomorrow morning at this time. Not with 24 more hrs of this and 2-3 inches of rain. Should have made the bet with Scooter and Phil on this one instead of the last torch

Maybe you never had that much to begin with and lied to us.

I also lost a fair amount in the last 20 hours. My driveway is almost clear. Also, when the re-tapped the trees last week, they came through and plowed through the lawn/fields so they could access them. It looks like those plowed trails may have some grass patches in them. That doesn't count as "explosed ground", but it's weird to see brown instead of white. Picnic table is down to about 3-4 inches above the 'benches". A week ago, it was at the top of the table.

43.0/42. Still at .02

You do some sugaring? Not much happening up here yet on that front but it'll be along soon.

Only lost 2" of snowpack here so far. 29" yesterday morning, now down to 27"

0.05" of rain in the past 24 hours, 42F.

I don't myself, but we allow ours to be tapped by a couple of folks. We get a couple gallons from them each year in exchange of which we use about half. lol

One has us tied into his tube network. The other does it the old-fashioned way hanging out the sap buckets. To be sure, the latter makes for a nicer picture. They set the new taps on Tuesday or Wednesday. As of yesterday's warmth, things seemed to be flowing nicely.

It's good to see them using their snow machines for work instead of play as they inspect and adjust the lines.

I'll be surprised if it is all erased. Some patchy grass for sure, but all of it? Unless you don't have as much as you made it sound.

Why would I have made it up? I had 15-18. It looks like now about 12 -14 Temps is 47 and dew is 47..roaring s winds temps near 60 today and 2-3 inches of rain. i just don't see how it survives.

This is like a Taunton torch

Messenger molester.

I guess we'll see. There is so much ice and water in that snow, that I find it sort of hard to believe it will be all gone.

44F and steady rain in here now.... Cold front seems to be about 70 miles wnw of here.

Basically lost the snowfall from the snowstorm of Friday February 25th... back to the way it looked before that. Probably 10-18" left in the woods, but a few grass patches showing in blow zones in the fields. But relief is on the way thankfully.

Good luck with this one, Rick!

I'm still somewhat intrigued by the mid month timeframe, but that's about all I'll say about that. It's our next real chance at something, but not all models agree.

Euro with a couple more rainers over the next 10

So, are you ready to fire up your lawn thread?

I was just reading up on apple trees and blueberry bushes. Looking to add to the former and start with the latter this year.

Was also looking at pumpkins. I think I'm going to try my hand a growing a giant one. Just for the heck of it. Must be a guy thing.

43.1/42. Foggy and light rain.

Sounds good. Nothing like maple syrup. I like to drink the straight sap too--quite tasty and makes a good mixer for gin or vodka. :drunk:

I make a little myself--tap about ten trees, use buckets and boil it up (down, really) on an old woodstove in my shop. Being a cold spot as we are, our trees are some of the last to get going, even here locally.

My only garden project this Spring is to get some more scotch pine saplings. I go out to my cousins place (high atop the Allegany Plateau - 2300') and dig up little ones. They have them growing everywhere.

My clay soil here is not great, but those trees do very well and they grow really fast. My 1 foot saplings from 2008 are averaging 3 to 4 feet now! So will bolster the wind break line....

Don't kid yourself, size matters.

Grow some honey crisps! They are the best. We put in a Honey Crisp and Empire tree last year along with 2 plums.

I'm ready for bare ground and the growing season, though I'm not sure that is going to happen very soon. Just by eyeballing while it looks like lots of melting there is at least 26 or 7 inches at the stake.

Sounds good. I really don't know how good my soil is. I know it drains well, though. Does well with my wife's perrenials and vegetables. We'll have to see about my apple/blueberry venture. They will probably serve as an inviation to bears to come closer to the house. Alas.

I suppose this should be relegated to the general banter thread, but as Will said, this event is not generating a lot of excitement except for a few lucky souls like yourself.

We put in four trees last year (mccoun and empire--I think). I managed to fell a 40' cherry on one of them, breaking off a couple significant branches (they're like 4-5' tall trees). My wife was not pleased. Nor was I for that matter. We'll see if it pulled through winter soon enough.

I love Macoun apples. Those are the ones we pick at our local orchard.

My Weather Underground station is recording what appears to be among the lowest temperatures in all of New England... 36degF at 730am. I am in Colebrook in NW Connecticut. Compared the temp on the Davis rig with my two mercury recording thermometers and it is spot on. Closest similar temps were in northern Adirondacks and extreme NW Maine. I live in a ravine on a brook, so I am figuring the cold air is trapped down here, plus a hemlock-shrouded site, a 28" snowpack, plus evaporative cooling from the brook (which is rising and clearing out the ice).

Goodmorning Southern New England!!

49/44

overcast

What a mild night and early morning, snow is 95% gone (thank God, it was disgusting)...........some rain on the way and back to work this week as my first winter cleanups have been scheduled for Wed!

It was a great winter, but with the snow gone its like it never happened, almost time to break out the pics and smile.

Have a great Sunday!

Pretty cool phenomenon...post some pics of the brook/topography etc...you may actually be a colder and snowier place than where MRG lives

Do you have a good source for blueberry bushes Mike? I'm looking to add a few this year.
