It's great outside (unless one is driving)! Perhaps once it's all said and done we would have overachieved with 15+ cms. A proper snowstorm, with echoes of 1999.

That said...I would dearly like to meet the incompetent oafs at EC who came up with the forecast. This would warrant a snowfall warning in my opinion, and their original rubbish forecast hasn't changed one bit! The only logical explanation is that the Neanderthals couldn't be bothered. What a useless job...and this eventually affects the public! I bet Mr. Harper will wake up with a puzzled look on his face.

Btw OL, don't know if you remember that little analysis I did...well...with this, it is officially not a statistically crappy winter in Ottawa! Crappy for sure, but not statistically crappy tongue.gif

easily the worst performance by EC ive ever seen......all across ontario.

did you hear about all the accidents in the upper ottawa valley today?

plus the fatalitirs in ottawa, likely from frzra last night?

i just cant believe what i have seen unfold from them this weekend.....its pretty much negligence lol.

and yes, it is incredible outside. a proper snowstorm with sideways snow and big flakes and everything.

im awake. sad to see 0z nam didn't go west.. Rochester and Buff out of snow. Goodnite.!

:snowman:

the wavy...slow moving frontal boundary that helped to produce

widespread rains across the region on Saturday is now in the process

of moving away to the southeast. In its wake...a much colder airmass

will pour southwards and change our precipitation to snow. While

Post frontal precipitation is often limited and short lived...this

case will prove to be quite different.

Significant amounts of wet snow can be expected across all of the

region today into tonight...as a well organized wave will make its

way up the slow moving front to keep moisture in place. This wave

should be close enough to our region so that we will be found under

a nearly stationary deformation zone...where snow will fall at a

rate of an inch an hour. While all of the region will be found under

this deep area of lift for at least a few hours today...sites east

of a roc-dsv-elz line will be in the 'sweet spot' the longest with

the slow moving deformation producing snow accumulations of up to a

foot through tonight. A Winter Storm Warning is already in effect

for that particular region. The far western counties will pick up

lower amounts...so a Winter Weather Advisory should suffice.

they mentioned on the CTV local news for people to stay off the roads in the upper ottawa valley.....because of course people had no idea that 40cm + of snow was falling there.

and they said accidents in ottawa last night due to weather. and they warned people to stay off the road tonight. it wasnt due to EC though, just common sense looking around what was going on.....they said it was snowing heavily downtown at the CTV building and they 'figured it was going to snow more than the official forecast'....so they were warning people since EC didnt.

just pathetic really.

Just checked the news....terrible.

Good though that your visit here wasn't for nothing! If you were to hazard a guess, how much do you think we'll end up with? I am willing to bet your guess will be more accurate than EC's measurement.

i said earlier

7-15cm, but perhaps 10-20cm if precip continues longer than expected.

Metro Montréal - Laval

4:31 AM EST Sunday 06 March 2011

Winter storm warning for

Metro Montréal - Laval issued

A total of 15 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected over the St Lawrence Valley regions from Montréal to Quebec City through Monday evening. Further east, areas from the Eastern Townships to the Gaspé Peninsula will see close to 35 cm. Strong winds will reduce visibilities in blowing snow beginning tonight.

A major low pressure system over New York state is moving eastward. The warm front associated with this system is causing rain over Extreme Southern Quebec. Precipitation will gradually change over to snow today.

A second low pressure system will develop today along the us eastern seaboard and will bring significant snowfall amounts to Southern Quebec, mainly over the Eastern Townships and the Beauce beginning this afternoon. This significant area of snow will reach the Gaspé Peninsula this evening and the Lower North Shore on Monday.

Closing in on 4" here. Looks like amounts in my neck of the woods will stay under control - maybe another couple inches? Interesting trend we've had this winter of almost instant snowpack regeneration after every thaw.

On a side note, this has been a fun storm to follow over the last couple days with the battle of the models. CNYWxGuy et al did a great job of posting the model runs and providing analysis. Looking forward to obs of 12" + from CNY point east...
