Hey Unc for coolest springs you have 1888 listed as both #1 and #2 Wow the whole top ten of coolest springs is entirely within the 1800s and except for 1921 and 1945 the top 10 warmest are from 1977 and later. The top 6 wettest are 1980 and later. The only grouping with a reasonable scattering of years is the top 10 driest-- and even that only has one from the last 50 years or so (1995.)

True....that sort of thing is what can make weather so interesting.

Anyways, any thoughts on what spring could bring this year?

How do nina's affect spring climate?

Based on the above I'd go with mild/wet lol. Although if the blocking comes back, it could be cool/wet. Ugh.

LOL look at that 85 on 3/13/90 that is the earliest 85 in NYC by more than two weeks! Newark was even warmer! What a horrendous winter that was and yet in April we got an inch of snow. November and April were the two best months that snow season.

3/13 has a 79F spread between its record high and low in NYC - not many dates with that breadth of temps. The spread for all of January is only 78. Also cool that the record low came in the 1888 blizzard. Without going any further than Unc's snowfall thread, I found 2/24 also with 79 (75/-4) and 2/15 at 81 (73/-8.) I think that only two other dates have any chance of joining the crowd, 2/9 and 12/30, due to their lows of -15, -13.

I've been holding out the hope for more snow but I think it has finally sunk in that winter is over. Sure we can get a few days with below normal temps but you can see that the pattern is just way to progressive and as soon as the SE ridge seems to get knocked down or pushed eastward it just re-establishes itself a few days later. Time to move on to what looks like a rainy spring.

So far March is averaging +3.6...it needs to average -7 each day till the month ends to be average...There is a chance that can happen...We have not seen an April with below freezing temperatures since 2007 when we had four days 32 or lower...This is a list of April minimums and the amount of freezing days...Some of these were a one morning cold spell but temperatures were below freezing before midnight the previous day...

It's almost 13 degrees warmer than the coolest spring, and that is damn impressive to do during a season that is an intermediate between hot and cold.

Actually you'd expect that during a transitional period. During the summer the low 100's appears to be an overall max temperature and during the winter, with a few very scattered exception -5F appears to be a minimum. So your springs and falls can vary almost all the way to overall maximums and minimums, whereas on the topside in summer we're "maxed out".

Spring 2011 ends up about a half of a degree above the 1981-2010 average...But is almost +2.5 above the long term average...Precipitation was above normal...It was the 12th wettest on record...Last year was the warmest on record and the 11th wettest on record...The average this year was 53.7 with 16.65" of precipitation...The max temp was today's 89...One degree above average...May ends up almost two degrees above normal and was wetter than normal...5+ inches of rainfall after a dry start...The May minimum was only 46 and is one of the warmest on record...
