It's been raining her for about the last 20 minutes... like others have said the first 10-15 minutes of rain was also accompanied by strong winds but now the winds have calmed some. However just in the past 2-3 minutes I have had several lightning strikes close by which I did not have during the "worst" of the storm.... looks like some heavy bands about to swing through.

Thank GOD for the rain!!!!

I don't know if it was downslope or what but that line really died as it came from Rutherford county meanwhile it's still going strong in the upstate.

the last few frames did look like it was weakening some from the intense peak it had in Rutherford....was still a good one here. The lightning is still ongoing, just had a very close bolt , too close. I'm surprised at how long the lightning keeps going.

Picture of the front as it came through the North Fulton/Sandy Springs area, taken with an iPhone. Always love to watch the storms from the 5th floor but today, a little too close for me. Now we are having drenching rain, lots of lightening. Everyone stay safe.

Now new tornado warning for City of Atlanta and Buckhead!

Likewise here. While the rain was certainly a welcoming sight, everything else was either short-lived or just meh. Lightning's not as bad as it was while the storm that hit here approached. The thunder continues to rumble and roll and as far as the winds go, they have died quite a bit (from the near 50mph peak gust to about somewhere between 15-20).

EDIT (6:13): Scratch that. The lightning's looking more impressive now.

After that squall came through here at 4 pm, we had lightning well past 5, probably didn't stop completely until 5:30.

heaviest rain of the system now. The radar looks like building echoes and pretty large real estate coverage just to my west so thats def. a bonus for here. The lightning just won't quit now, seems to be intensifying. .72" so far. Great storm!

As the sky darkens from the setting sun you can still see the approaching storm at the horizon.Very thick dense clouds even with a greenish tint, the wind is picking up in intensity and while I type this big fat raindrops are just now starting to come down.So excited for the rain like everyone else we really need bad here!

Had some very heavy rain and gusty winds here. Only recorded a peak gust of 30mph from the NW which is somewhat sheltered by trees. I would say winds probably gusted up to near 40. Very heavy rain though as I received half an inch in just over 15 minutes. Rainfall rate actually peaked out at over 5in/hr. The most surprising thing about these storms was the lightning. Had some bolts here that would do a summer thunderstorm proud. Still thundering with some regularity here as I type this. Now have 0.68" in the bucket with moderate rain. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Well I was stuck in school for the main event! Here's a few things I noticed... This morning at about 7:15 I posted about how we needed some sun for things to get really going. Well from about 10-2 P.M. we got it! I got out from a class at 1:20 and it was really warm and quite muggy. I was checking the radar intermittently during class (illegal btw ) and saw the line starting to fire in Mississippi and Alabama. Once school got out I checked again on my phone and saw the line was really starting to crank. I was starting to get a little excited as I headed to school soccer practice. It grew very windy at about 3:30 with some (to my untrained eye) gusts over 20 mph. They called practice at 4:30 and as I was walking to the main building I see some lady and shes like " Hurry! There's a Tornado Warning!" Now the storm was at least 20 minutes but they made us duck and cover in the hallway. I kept checking the radar and it looked like just a few miles to the north got hit the hardest. Emerson and Woodstock got raped. EmersonGA's report kinda confirmed what I was thinking. No hail here just a whole lotta heavy rain, wind, and lightning.

Definitely over performed here as far as rain goes. Almost 1.2" here as it is still raining pretty good.

That's about how it was here last year during a couple of events. What hits Cleveland county has the tendency to split and skip my area to both my north and south. All that I would usually get is either just clouds passing by with distant thunder or a bit of rain and wind.

usually they skip me and reform near 321 and blast CLT . I can't tell you the number of times each Summer we miss storms that roll down the mountains, dissipate here, then reform to my east.
