Mrs.J
these gusts are making me cringe, they have alot of "oomph" to them. Pepco is really gonna blow That is what my husband just said. vastateofmind
Sustained winds have suddenly picked up a lot here on the ground. We're on the flight path to DCA's southern Potomac approach and I just witnessed two planes struggling to stay level in what must be incredible winds aloft... Avdave
Runway goes NW to SE, right? Nice tailwind to help They always take off into the wind, so they should be taking off runways 1 and/or 33 today

Ian
this is a really quick hit windstorm -- isobars relax fast after a punch in the afternoon. it could actually be more intense than the last one for a shorter period if the guidance is right. http://www.nco.ncep....am_pcp_018m.gif http://www.nco.ncep....am_pcp_030m.gif maybe but it had hours and hours of 50 mph+ winds. those do damage regardless of fires. there were not a ton past 60 I guess tho. MOS has been advertising upper 20s/low 30s kts sustained. it looks like there's a window in there where 60+ is definitely possible. yay me

Ellinwood
A lots of these storms keep trying to get rotation, but the highs winds are shearing it all up. However, I've been keeping an eye on the one cell that's about to hit the very southern tip of NJ. Some interesting stuff going on at the SW edge of it. Then went on to say something about highway conditions with the winds. I know you need to watch with high profile vehicles but have never heard them announce a highway warning. Was just wondering if it was a new term.
mdwx
Whats the height your supposed to have your wind anemometer 30 ft? How much a difference you think between 6ft and 30ft wind wise? That 43mph gust beat my previous high ever by 9-10mph.. I've had numerous gust over 30mph.. Like a Tropical Storm blowing through.

Not sure...mine is about 40 feet off the ground on my roof, which happens to face WNW into the wind, so my top wind gust reading might be a bit "inflated".
