Problem is, then expectations rise. I'm much happier tracking possible embedded thunder in February in New England ;)

This is certainly fun to track!

Let's just hope we can get a few week period of major action.

It wouldn't surprise me if late May/early June are active around here...going from a strong Nino to borderline strong Nina within a year has made the atmosphere fairly volatile and there are some indications that we may actually be heading back towards a Nino. This could be at least a fun spring/early summer for the Ohio Valley region through PA and down into the mid-Atlantic.

Thanksgiving 2005 on the Maine coast.

THANKSGIVING DAY TORNADO IN PHIPPSBURG CONFIRMED...

AFTER SURVEYING DAMAGE FROM THE THANKSGIVING DAY (NOV 24) STORMS IN

PHIPPSBURG, SAGADAHOC COUNTY, MAINE, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS

DETERMINED THAT DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A SMALL TORNADO.

THE TORNADO INITIALLY TOUCHED DOWN NEAR SMALL POINT ROAD ABOUT 1 PM

AND TRAVELLED NORTH ACROSS HERMIT ISLAND AND THEN ACROSS SMALL POINT

HARBOR WHERE THE TORNADO LIFTED OFF THE GROUND. THE TORNADO THEN

TOUCHED DOWN AGAIN BRIEFLY IN A WOODED AREA OFF WEST POINT ROAD

BEFORE DISSIPATING.

ALTHOUGH THE DAMAGE WAS DISCONTINUOUS...THE OVERALL PATH LENGTH OF

DAMAGE WAS ABOUT TWO MILES WITH A MAXIMUM WIDTH OF ABOUT 30 YARDS.

THE TORNADO INTENSITY WAS CLASSIFIED AS F1 ON THE FUJITA SCALE.

MAXIMUM WINDS WERE ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 100 MPH AND NEAR SMALL

POINT ROAD WHERE THE GREATEST DAMAGE OCCURRED. THE TORNADO KNOCKED

OVER NUMEROUS TREES AND DAMAGED OR DESTROYED SEVERAL BUILDINGS.

SEVERAL SUMMER HOMES WERE BLOWN OFF THEIR FOUNDATIONS.

MAINE AVERAGES ABOUT TWO TORNADOES A YEAR. THIS IS THE SECOND

CONFIRMED TORNADO IN MAINE FOR 2005. THE FIRST CONFIRMED TORNADO

OCCURRED OVER NORTH TWIN LAKE IN PENOBSCOT COUNTY ON AUGUST 1.

I lived therea the time. Passed about 2 miles south of me.

LOL.. You know I'm not worried. Monday is the one for us all to worry about. That one may bring some grass out in spots depending on how much we get tonight and with the clipper

Lots of grass showing through in central CT. NWS says no snow tonight and only light snows before another changeover for Sunday.

All rain with an occasional pinger or lonely wet flake

Trees are starting to shed some of the buildup

I would prefer to avoid snowblowing in the rain. I will wait until later

Winds picking up

You will snowblow. You can't push this stuff with the shovel because most of it just falls off the back or out the sides.

Strongly agree. Our thoughts for last summer turned out pretty good. This year promises to be even more active IMO

With snow OTG too!

I don't think we had snow on the ground. That was an incredibly mild Thanksiving. I remember going for a walk at the time of the tornado thinking how dark it was. But it was really mild--think it was prior to any snow that year. But, I could be off on that.

NCP at the moment.

Hey I only had about a three week window this winter when absolutely no grass was showing - due to the insane blowing we get. But I feel confiodent that Monday's thaw will never get us down to grass anywhere...way too much snow. Flash freeze Monday evening FTW. :snowman:

Yes they did! I as well think this year could be more in the way of active, especially early on. If we get some blocking to return in the early spring that can help to create some very nice temperature gradients which would mean strong cold fronts and the jet stream has been very active the past two years now and pretty strong...I don't see that subsiding anytime soon. Even last summer the STJ was a bit stronger than usual.

I actually agree on the spring...I think it sucks here....lots of backdoors, especially if we go back into a blocking regime in the spring. The only way we don't see this occur is if there is very little blocking and the SE ridge takes prominence, which remains a possibility.
