pazzo83
Major gusts now up above the craziness in midtown, no way to measure up here but with the shaking of the windows I'd guess gusts between 60 and 80 mph.

How much wind do you need to shatter the windows?
pazzo83
How much wind do you need to shatter the windows? These windows have got to be incredibly strong. We've easily had gusts near 100 mph on a couple days.
eduggs
Drizzle has turned to moderate snow in Putnam County. It's unlikely to last but in just a few minutes it has whitened everything up nicely! Temp 34F and falling. Cold air aloft is moving back in. It's unlikely to last but in just a few minutes it has whitened everything up nicely! Temp 34F and falling. Cold air aloft is moving back in. I'm down to 30* now with strong N/NW winds and moderate snow. Like you said, everything whitened up in a hurry here too. Be careful out there tonight and tomorrow morning, all the residual salt washed away this afternoon in the heavy rain so the roads are freezing up really quickly. My patio is already a skating rink. Guest Pamela
I think it is interesting how Islip so frequently manages to finish first in rainfall and with a similar frequency last in snowfall, even when the type of precipitation is not in question... ...SUFFOLK COUNTY... bmc10
Pretty cool wind shift, even though it was a while ago. This is what I was referencing in a post yesterday about two distinct wind threats. The first being from the primary low and having the greatest affects for coastal Long Island and places the further east of the LP. Second threat was after the clearing of the front and for areas from W to E and especially interior areas that had little/no wind earlier with a more NW component. My winds have finally started to increase here in interior northern NJ.

Guest Pamela
"First in rainfall last in snowfall" sounds like a similar quote attributed to DC You've got the City right, though I believe the precise quote is: "Washington: First in War, First in Peace, and Last in the American League." The reference of course being to the American League perennial cellar dwellers, the Washington Senators...
