earthlight
Wow. It literally stopped raining and within 30 seconds, we just had a 45 mph wind gust.
earthlight
This is awesome...as soon as the rain passes the winds go nuts.
earthlight
The convection definitely mixed down some winds which come directly behind the very heavy rain...we just gusted close to 50. We'll have to check the surrounding wunderground stations but that was intense.

pazzo83
I doubt that is right, seems a bit high. Secondly, congrats on the snow, I wish I were there right now! ~60 seems to be the consensus of the PWS's there.
earthlight
I'm not sure if that gust was an isolated incident, but that was really intense. There was a loud roar for a good 20 seconds and the trees were all bending in one direction severely. I'll have to take a drive around in a few minutes to see if there's any damage. earthlight
~60 seems to be the consensus of the PWS's there. We got up to 59 a few minutes ago but we're down a few degrees since.

Yea the contrast in air temperatures alone probably was able to create some mixing and bring some winds down to the surface, and with the dynamics being the way they are and a ripping LLJ the high wind alerts in place seem appropriate. mgerb
68 in Edison Shave about ten degrees off that and you're about right. Just had the squall come through Somerset, near New Brunswick. Obviously some heavy rain, but winds were rather light until the end of the squall when they picked up. Now gusting in the 20s (maybe low 30s?), I'd estimate. Didn't notice any thunder or lightning. earthlight
The SPC WRF still has more storms around 21 z...which is odd to me given the radar and satellite presentation...but it's firing them on the very lead edge of the shortwave near the upper level low and along the thermal boundary. We will see.

weatherwiz
This is some sick line for this time of year! Beautiful forced line of convection. NYC looks like it will be getting hit pretty good. Looks like everything is linear today, was wondering if we would possibly see some discrete cells at first but the flow aloft is more on the unidirectional side with the directional shear taking place in the lower levels with the warm front around. I wonder if we see a warning for the NYC metro area soon?
