I agree. This is why I love long winters-- even if there is a torch in the middle. What some people dont understand is you NEED a torch to make a long winter, like 1966-67 or 1995-96.... its IMPOSSIBLE for it to be cold and snowy for 13 weeks straight. I'd rather have the torch in the middle of the winter and close out strong than have the torch past the midway point and have the winter end early, only to be followed by a cool rainy spring.

This is why I will always put winters like 1966-67 and 1995-96 WAY ahead of a winter like 1960-61 which ended in early February. In urban areas we dont give a **** about dirty ugly old snowcover-- we care more about what falls from the sky than old crusty snowcover on the ground.

right on man.....im ready to close this biatch out in style!!!

Damn straight! Everyone who wants to get all excited about a 5 minute t-storm squall line in February can get their jollies now while I vomit about it. As far as I am concerned if having this garbage pattern now gives me at least 2 feet more of snow in March then so be it lol.

lol this really is like January 1996-- except its displaced by a month. Thats the good thing about having a torch in January, you have much more time to recover from it.

15-20 above normal a day here and there in a winter where we were below normal by that much for days at a time doesn't impress me and quite honetly is just flat out boring.

Uh, avg high for 25 Feb in NYC is 44 F. It is nice to be able to walk around without the biting cold in your face.

Also, the coldest high this month has been 29 F on Feb 9, which, coincidentally was the first day when the avg high for NYC hit 40 F (so we were -11 on the high).

The coldest max we've had all winter has been 24 (thrice in Jan). On both days the avg high was 38, so we were -14.

Lol, so it isn't even 15 above normal which is even more of a reason to find a random 56 degree reading in winter like this on Feb 25th boring. I'll take that biting wind as it is more interesting to me. A damp 56 degree temperature is just blah. The 70 degree torch the other day was interesting at least but again unimpressive in a winter that has been below normal for weeks at a time. A perfect example of how meaningless that 70 degree reading was in a winter like this is the fact that two days later we got 3-4 inches of snow that accumulated on everything. If this Sunday brings another couple inches of snow, today's rain and upper 50's also is meaningless in the grand scheme of things this winter and is just flat out a boring weather experience.

They do, and I for one love looking at the short shorts, tanks tops and flip flops but I have no problem waiting until May to see that. No need to rush the warmer weather, it will get here when it gets here. Hopefully we get about 45" in March :weenie:

If you can just "tell her" what to wear and do you got extra lucky beyond her just being hot

Good- lets hope it holds for the next 300 + hours :P

Euro weeklies kind of support the GFS in this time range....they've got some troughing on the EC the last 2 weeks of March....maybe a couple opportunities remain...looks like a last ditch cold outbreak.....

Ahhh, I was hoping something more along the lines of March 8-10..... I guess the Euro is slower bringing in the cold than the GFS? The GFS does have a tendency to rush with pattern changes.

Well it's a smoothed average, so I suppose we can sneak the cold in sooner, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have another set of guidance leaning the way we like....

Yeah no kidding. GFS really tries to make March 5-15 period extremely cold, blocky and snowy.

best part about it the pattern is getting more pronounced with each run instead of backing off

suspect some of it has to do with the wavelengths beginning to change as well
