This thread has some of the worst posts I've ever seen...so many people speaking like they actually have an idea of what is going on...not even the folks who have worked with Accuwx, worked with JB, or even know him have a total understanding of the situation but yet there are so many here who are quick to make judgement calls, bash people and the company, and start talking about what he may do next and what not. Not sure why people think they need to just spew off total crap when they have ZERO idea of what is going on or what transpired.

I agree. It's just too bad that he couldn't tweet a goodbye to his loyal fans. Not even give a reason for his departure, just say goodbye. Maybe he will.

For all we know, he's been reading this thread and laughing at all the speculation.

He's human just like all of us...if there is something he wants us to know he'll let us know...there are issues we all have that we just don't want anyone to know and people should respect that. If we have someone such as Jesse Ferrell who has worked with him for many years taking the time to try to answer as many questions as possible who doesn't even totally have a full understanding of the situation that should say alot right there.

Some of the speculation by some here has just been plain awful and has made some people look incredibly stupid, I would simply be embarrassed if I had said some of the things that some have said here.

If you don't know him, don't work with him or don't have any information than just STFU with the speculation b/c chances are you have zero clue what you're talking about.

Well I'll give him he was a decent forecaster, but he had so many epic busts as well so I just never understood the obsession with him. It seems to me people were more attracted to the personality than the forecasting skill.

His anti-AGW rants were just plain stupid and arrogant. He should have stuck to the weather.. there are huge amounts of research done by very smart and competent people which he contradicted with only a cursory understanding of the issues.

How appropriate that his last video was a prediction that the arctic sea ice minimum will be well above every minimum from 2003-present. I will give anybody here 10:1 odds that doesn't happen.

Unfortunately he has misled a lot of people on that subject. Hopefully his career move doesn't give him a louder microphone for this kind of stuff. But I fear that given his obsession over this issue and his love of the spotlight, that's exactly what he's looking for.

You guys are speculating more here than we are internally at AccuWeather :arrowhead:

No new info to report today unfortunately. I can't find anyone who has actually talked to him about it.

Due to TWC's views on Climate Change, I would seriously doubt that he would end up there.

Another possibility is that he is retiring or taking a break from the weather biz for personal/family reasons.

Well, I'm sure we'll hear eventually. Thanks for the kind comments.

You are right as there is quite the speculation here. I find it somewhat hard to believe though that no one at AccuWeather seems to know the reason(s) why JB left. Did he not have an 'exit interview' before departing? I assume those are still conducted there. Someone on the management side had to have talked with him before he left, so they probably know why but that info perhaps is not being shared (?).

I actually never got an exit interview when I left, so they may not do those for everyone. But I'm sure someone or a few "someones" know why he left. Maybe not Jesse, but someone knows... not that it's anyone's business until JB is ready to discuss whatever parts he feels like discussing anyway. I still think he winds up in energy rather than TV (except for maybe the occasional appearance). I highly doubt he's retiring though he probably does want to spend a little more time with the family.

Interesting, perhaps they did away with the exit interviews. As far as I recall, they conducted those with everyone leaving when I was there (I had one). But agree, someone there knows why he left but good point about it not really being anyone's business. Perhaps it was decided to let JB announce the reasoning when he feels it is time.

Are you drunk Wiz? True there are some terrible posts in this thread but to talk about speculation, thats what this thread is all about. Though some speculation maybe way off the walls, some of them could happen. Afterall this is a discussion board. what are they supposed to talk about on this subject? the negative stuff maybe a bit to much, but it isnt a surprise, it is what makes the world go round. everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on topics

I had an exit interview but perhaps they stopped doing them since Brian left after I did.

I was wondering about any non-compete clause.

If he works for Fox, I can't see him doing the daily grind day to day tv from NYC...., but I could see him working for Fox, and "The Daily" App(remotely).....and do TV when needed by remote..but have his video's and blog thru the "The Daily " app..... That's my guess........

Sure, blame me. :arrowhead: But just think of all the experience you gained there. ;)

Well, at least I would've acquired my negative attitude toward that place over time instead of having it before I even walked in the door. It might've saved me from one or two missteps in my first few days there ;)

I was just giving you information based on my experience there. Don't shoot the messenger. ;)

Henry did short range video today and, in contrast to yesterday (when he said was going with the GFS because it was giving his hometown sig. snow..hey, you have to give him points for being an honest weenie), he was more objective. He and Paul Pastelok also did long range videos and did well. As a matter of fact, Henry flat out said to forget a 3/9ish GFS modeled east coast storm due largely to a +NAO. He favors a cutter. Also, he is worried about New England flooding with rain on top of melting snowpack.

Regardless of how Henry and Paul do, there's no doubt that I (and many others) will miss JB's unique style, excitement level, and long range teleconnection related forecast discussions even if he tended to overdo it on the storms. I do think that JB improved his seasonal forecasting the last few years with more variable predictions as opposed to strongly favoring cold winters and hot summers. Good luck, JB, in your future endeavors!

http://www.wheresjoebastardi.com has over 300 unique visits - thanks all! Poll results are interesting -

Have you cancelled your Accuwx Pro subscription? Running about 3 to 1 Yes

Do you think he'll take a full time gig at Fox News? Majority think no.

No reply yet from Joe on my charitable contribution offer but no surprise there, though I'm pretty sure he's aware of the website :) And still no cease and desist notification from Accuwx, always a good thing.
