sherbar
It has been raining here for over an hour. It is also lightning and thundering a lot too. It is 31 degrees and I am afraid the ice is going to get pretty thick. It is all ready very slick outside. I am 20 miles south of the Quad Cites. Chicago Storm
Only have had some FZDZ and mist, but there is already a nice glaze on many surfaces. Temp is sitting at 32F. Trees are already crackling a bit in the wind.

River Card
Pretty good rumbles of thunder occuring in the SW burbs, checked the temp on nws and it shows 32 degrees. Not sure what to think but thunder and freezing temps could spell paralyzation for the A.M commute. Is the NWS downplaying this? Should a WSW go up? In the city probably not like you said.. But out hear in the burbs I already have a nice coating of ice with nothing more than a drizzle/mist throughout the evening with the temp right around 32.. Moneyman
I'm pretty sure if you are at 32 degrees and you get heavy precip, it won't be nearly as bad as if it was 32 degrees and light precip. Maybe I am wrong on that though.

Sure and light precip will accrete better in marginal temps than heavy rain will. The .2 to .3 amounts in the wwa sound good to me.

Maybe I am wrong on that though. That's usually the case if you're hanging around 32. In the 12/19/08 event, we had some heavy rain with a temp of 32. There was some accretion (temps were colder before the heavy batch moved in) but it had trouble building up a lot once the precip rates increased. cyclone77
Healthy cell heading this way...I feel funny posting about it in the severe thread unless it goes warned lol That elevated convection is sure flying down there. Storms speeds are pretty impressive. Hard to believe you guys are so warm down there while it's so cold to the north. Freezing rain really starting to glaze things over here now. Coming down moderately with occasional rumbles of thunder.

snowstormcanuck
Looks like I'll avoid the ice here, but just barely. NAM has 2m temps stuck at around 0.7-0.9c throughout the entire event. Maybe a bit of slush on the backside.

Chicago WX
Meh, the cell is weakening and moving off to the southeast. Good luck (for hoping it doesn't turn into something serious) with the ice to all of northern IL posters tonight.
