I am nowhere near as exp as you are in this hobby, but I really cant see why the models would be any good right about now, outside of the RUC. System is knocking on our doorsteps and will be over in 16 hours or so. I just like to use radars and downstream obs by now. just my two cents though

This is actually pretty silly, as a 24 hour forecast from given model is going to be more useful than 5 day forecast from the same model, in any absolute sense (model errors GROW with time). In fact, how could any model be of any use at all if it is in fact "useless/not any good" within the first 24 hours of its simulation [and this includes the GGEM].

Tahnks, where did you get the 3 hourly sounding for the gfs. That's good stuff?

Those came from the wunderground.com WunderMap. If you put it into model mode, select the model you want to step through, it will increment the GFS in 3hr increments for the beginning part of the run. Also, you can tell it that when you click, you want a point sounding. Then you can pop it out into a new browser window to blow it up.

I use WunderMap all the time for looking at models because you can easily zoom in and out thumbsupsmileyanim.gif It only does soundings for the GFS, though, for some reason... NAM and RUC do not work.

I was asking where he got the 3 hourly sounding data from the GFS. Even looking at Wunderground, I haven't yet found it. I'd love to have the url for it.

Here's a link to the WunderMap and then on the checkboxes at the bottom, you unselect NEXRAD and select Model Data and then you can change the "Map Click Behavior" to Profile

it has 3 hr soundings up to hr 48...just clikc on the map of where you house or area is located and it will give the nearest sounding station, hope this helps.
