Snow has slackened considerably over the last half hour; at 9:05 AM I measured 4.6" new snow and the depth of snow on the ground is a little short of a foot in most places. Wondering if there might be enough moisture left over to squeeze out a few renegade snow showers and bring the storm total to an even 5. Anyway, I consider this winning the first game of the doubleheader...and with Christy Mathewson going for them in the nigthtcap...a split is sufficient.

Youre closing in on last year. Whats the most youve had since youve lived there?

The most I've had in Dobbs Ferry is the 68" from 09-10. I had about 55" in 02-03.

I had over 80" living in Tarrytown during the 95-96 Winter, but don't remember much except the big blizzard since I was only 8 years old. That's only about 3 miles from here...Dobbs recorded 82" at the downtown co-op.

This puts CPK officially at 60.2" assuming there is nothing additional from the vestiges of this last band or round 2, placing it not only in the 60" club, but in the #4 slot for greatest seasonal snowfall, only surpassed by 1872/73(60.3), 1922/23(60.4), 1947/48(63.2) and 1995/96(75.6). Breaking the all time record (only another 15.5") shouldn't be any big deal. :P

For those living in the HPN area:

http://www.erh.noaa....hitePlains.html

The record for seasonal snow is 84".

Although they are missing records from 47-49, which was a big year as we all know.

How much did they get in 60-61?

The Dobbs Ferry co-op measured 90" that winter. That's the record for here followed by 95-96.

I think theyll add a bit since the last measurement was at 7 and some of the heaviest snow fell between 7 AM and 9 AM.... I think theyll be #3 by the last measurement of this storm.

They likely tacked on a bit more, Diego, because the 2.5" you added was through 7:00 AM and the obs showed snow still falling there later in the morning.

Thats the record, 84 at the airport.

1947-48 might actually have been your biggest..... White Plains got 32" from Dec 1947 alone.

Yeah thats why its not the best dataset...missing some key years.

I assume the rest of 47-48 was relatively snowy as well, so that could be the record year.

The Dobbs Ferry records seem to be pretty accurate from that period; about 80" fell here in 47-48, similar to 57-58 a decade later.

60-61" had two storms around 18" and one storm over 24" so that definitely stands out for Westchester. The winter was very intense from the December 1960 storm that dropped about 18" here through the Arctic outbreak in the latter half of January, then another 18" storm, then like 25" in the February 1961 event. Winter was pretty much finished at that point although a few smaller events were mixed in to get to the 90" mark.

They were snowcovered (and my driveway was covered) earlier this morning when the sun's UV rays werent burning through the cloud cover. Now its wet roads, but my driveway is still covered. How much did you measure?

Well, I measured 3 in on my table out here. I really didn't even think I'd see that much so this is a nice little event. Still very light snow, individual flakes which is always cool to see.

Looks like 3" is a nice avg for the Island.... up by William close to 5" This event was well forecast in the past 24 hrs or so.

Would be happy to share with you all the records for the stations in Westchester...unfortunately just bought a new bookcase and had taken all the books off the old shelf and placed them in bags in another room...lots of bags. Will get around to filling up the as of now empty new bookshelf shortly. Check your Westchester Weather Book by Thaler...should have the records...though only through the mid-1970's.

They also somehow got less than NYC in 93-94...possibly because they were too far north for the core of 2/8 event, missed the 12/11 event...that was about 8-9 inches total there.

Youd think they would have made up for it with all the changeover and mixing events that winter but maybe not.

How the hell did HPN get 51 inches in 92-93?

Nothing in the least surprising about that. White Plains is at 440 feet and there were some marginal events that winter...Dec 92 backlash huge in Westchester...around 16" in Yorktown Heights and a lot down to HPN...same with March Superstorm. #'s are 100% legit, IMO.
