He's right though... the most frustrating pattern is bitter cold, rain, bitter cold, dusting, rain, bitter cold.

I had my first moment of the season this morning where I woke up and saw that it was -5F and thought, hmm, maybe this isn't so much fun anymore. I absolutely love snow, but I'm not a fan of extreme cold if it doesn't snow.

It has nothing to do with not being a snow lover. Ray is a true snow lover and so is just about everyone on here... but we aren't necessarily cold lovers. The only reason a lot of us like the cold is because it brings snow. If cold isn't going to bring snow, then it does lose its value.

Well considering you have dedicated your life and career to snow..and your livelihood depends on it..you'd better snap the hell out of it..and start enjoying the cold because it's the only cold that will extend the ski season and give you the money you've got

This sums it up pretty well, I had said earlier it will probably end up where the SREFS have it tracking......

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...

FORECAST CONFIDENCE REMAINS LOW THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AS

SIGNIFICANT MODEL DIFFERENCES REMAIN IN PLACE WITH RESPECT TO THE

AMPLITUDE AND TRACK OF THE SHORT WAVE TROUGH AND THE SFC LOW.

SOLUTIONS RANGE FROM THE ECMWF MODEL AND IT/S NORTHERLY SOLUTION

WHICH BRINGS A STRONG SFC LOW OVER ALBANY NY TO BANGOR ME ON

FRIDAY. THIS WOULD MEAN A MIX OF PRECIP FOR NORTHERN ZONES AND A

MIX TO RAIN IN THE SOUTH. ON THE OTHER HAND YOU HAVE THE 12Z NAM

AND GFS WHICH ARE SO FAR SOUTH THEY OFFER VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY

OF PRECIPITATION TO THE CWA AT ALL.

THE 12Z ENSEMBLE DATA REALLY DOESN/T OFFER MUCH IN THE WAY OF

CLARIFICATION EITHER. THE 12Z ECMWF ENSEMBLE MEAN TRACK THE LOW

MUCH LIKE THE OPERATIONAL RUN. LIKEWISE FOR THE GFS ENSEMBLE. THE

SREF IS SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN.

THEREFORE...WE HOLD THE COURSE WITH A COMPROMISE UNTIL BETTER

AGREEMENT IS ACHIEVED. THIS MEANS CONTINUING WITH LIKELY POPS FOR

ROUGHLY THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE CWA AND CHANCE NORTH. BECAUSE THE

LOW TRACK IS STILL UNCERTAIN...THAT MEANS LOW FORECAST CONFIDENCE

IN P-TYPE AS WELL. MAINTAINED ALL SNOW IN THE NORTHERNMOST

ZONES...BUT KEPT A MIX OF RN/SN/IP FOR THE REST OF THE AREA.

WHATEVER HAPPENS FRIDAY...THE LOW MOVES OUT FRIDAY NIGHT.

HOWEVER...THE TRAIN OF RELATIVELY JUICY SHORT WAVES WILL CONTINUE

FOR THE FORESEEBLE FUTURE. THIS COULD MEAN SEVERAL SNOW OR MIXED

PRECIP EVENTS...STARTING SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. THAT ONE LOOKS

TO BE A LIGHT SNOW EVENT. THE NEXT ONE...AND POTENTIALLY STRONGER

AND WARMER LOOKS LIKE IT/LL ARRIVE FOR LATER MONDAY AND DEPART

SOMETIME LATE TUESDAY. SO...IT LOOK TO GET ACTIVE AGAIN AFTER OUR

LULL IN WINTER WEATHER OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS.

God forebid some express the sentiment that a 0*...rainer, rinse\repeate is old.....that renders you a snow-hater, no one loves snow more than him, yet he has difficulty remembering the years in which many great events have occured.

Anytime anyone says something that doesn't resonate with him, he has to retaliate by claiming victory in some sort of bizarre "snow loving" contest.

Everyone expresses their love for snow, or anything else in life for that matter, in different ways.....so he wants petrified piles of sh** in place longer than I do...congrats, you win!!!

But it's funny that he loves snow more than I do, yet can't hold a candle to my memory of past events....I must love snow more!!

Haha point well taken. I'm just saying, skiing down the ice skating rink today with a wind chill of -30F wasn't as enjoyable as last Thursday's 50F, sunshine, and soft snow.

It does reach the point though as we head towards/into March, where cold loses its value. And as far as the ski resort goes, you'd be surprised how many people will come skiing and put up with sub-zero cold in December and January... but by late February and March they end up just staying home. We are starting to get to the time of season when skier visits rely on either a) snow/powder or B) nice spring skiing weather. Cold/dry just keeps them at home, inside on the internet arguing over whether or not MOS is 3 or 5 degrees too warm.

Let's just slowly add to them and enjoy winter.because the option is brown grass, and mud so deep it would cover your 4 foot body within 3 steps onto the lawn

I despise bare ground and mud, but what a disaster to lose that snowpack during February. That's the frustrating part, for me.

I guess the break in the pattern has allowed me to go back do doing things, like going to the gym...etc.

The pattern down the road is not a lock, either.

He always has to fine a way to threaten you into rooting on cold, if you even hint that you are becoming the least bit indifferent...."well you had better hope for snow, since it's your livelihood"......"I thought you were a snow lover, but I guess you don't love it as much as Will and I"......."You had better hope for cold because than we have snow chances....we aren't getting warm spring wx until May"......"The only other option is brown grass"

I think I hgave covered all his manipulative ploys.

I'm still holding out hope for some front end stuff/ice or a miracle, but not counting on it.

I'm with Ray 100%...either start adding on or just let it be an early Spring. This in between stuff friggen blows.

Sunday will be a nice little refresher, but the prob is that:

1) We have another suck azz rainer to contend with, first.

2) Condiering #1, these 2-3" high- ratio derived fluff jobs are not going to suffice.

I guess I shouldn't post any upcoming concerns, for fear of self inflicted bodily harm.

LOL....post away...maybe the pattern has gone to hell..maybe it hasn't. I'll enjoy every bit of winter we have left..and will anguish with every day of warmth and rain we have. Once the snow is gone...the fun is gone for me

Then you guys can have me posting about the torch and high dewpoints like we had last year from March-September.

I honestly do not care whether it's 60 and rain or 35 and rain....the pack is garbage, anyway.....and frankly, this artic cold\rain....1-3"...rinse, repeat pattern that we have been in is getting old, FAST......this season needs to sh** of get off the pot because I'm ready for either the finale, or spring.

I know.......here comes the bombardment from folks like Kev and Steve that I should hope for snow because we will do no better than 45 and drizzle, until latter May.....fine; I'm sick of the oscillating bwtwn 0*F, rain.....1-3"er every other week.....lets do this, already.

Yep me too. Could see this pattern coming a few weeks ago and it's exactly what we are getting. Cold and dry, warm and wet. Epic.

Tired of hearing about winter coming back at any moment.

I'll be honest..these posts about winter ending..hoping all the snow melts, warmth..holding hands with other men and dancing in circles is absolutely nauseating.

It's Feb 22. We have a full month of winter left on the calandar. Many of us need less than 20 inches to make 100 for the year. I'll track every event and hope every event trends colder until the very end. If the pattern fails..it fails..if we get 5 inches on Sunday and it rains on Tuesday next week.. oh well...that much closer to 100

I feel like we are becoming the MA when it comes to winter right now. Everyone hates breaks including me, but it is what it is.

Raging Nina pattern with no blocking...this is what we will contend with for a couple of weeks, I think. I feel like it could go either way, but it will depend on subtle features that determine the storm track. Yes the EPO is negative, but the massive ridge in the NPAC is also fueling the -PNA. -PNA with a + NAO means we walk the line. I'm slowly having concerns, but it's just way too early to determine anything right now. At least models after the first few days of March look a little more favorable.

Personally I hope it's 50 and sunny from here on out. The never ending talk about what's been 2" of snow since early February is funny.

But to each his own.
