baroclinic_instability
and proud...it's ok, probably not too many female weather nuts on here so no problem Yeah there definitely aren't too many on american. At UND my graduating class was pretty rare as we had equal male/female in our class--so we were a bit atypical.

Stebo
GFS coming in a bit more moist, making the NAM look a bit like an outlier with the lesser QPF it has.
cyclone77
I have my fingers crossed for TSSN this afternoon. Is the ice accumulating on everything? Yeah it's glazing pretty nicely out there on the elevated surfaces. It's more slushy than anything on the ground due to marginal temps and the fact it's raining high end moderate. If this were to continue for several hours I'd be a bit concerned, but WAA should bump us above freezing within an hour or two.

Stebo
Night those that are napping, unfortunately my sleep time will be during the first half of the storm so I'll probably miss out on the initial burst of thundersnow.
cyclone77
Wow, some very impressive bright banding showing up on the ILX radar over north-central Illinois. Must be some huge snowflakes aloft. Probably a great sign for very heavy snow later on in far northern/northeast Illinois.

mnchaser
We could be in trouble here, I'm thinking precip type is going to be a huge issue here, basically I am the borderline for a major snowstorm or a run of the mill storm. Way too close to call.. RUC/HRRR says dry slot after the first band, a few inches of slush...It wouldn't surprise me historically speaking these are how these storms usually turn out around these parts. MSP looks to be sitting very nice though.
ksstormhunter
Latest 10Z SmartModel run is showing Aberdeen with about 11" of snow potential, OshKosh looking at 14", LaCrosse at 12", Rochester at 14", Minneapolis at 16", and Brookings at 18" right now, still seeing significant icing also especially in the Milwaukee and Madison areas, cold see over .5" of Ice

goknights
Looking at all the new data this morning looks the best action will be north of la crosse. Probably a decent intial slug of snow followed by crap and the dry slot....
Powerball
The NAM initialized 2*C too warm at 850mb (FWIW), at least in Ann Arbor. This is according ot DTX.

Powerball
Low's further south and weaker than what the GFS has/had at 12z (headed well into Kansas versus along/north of the KS/NE border). Best pressures falls are towards SE Iowa. More in line with the NAM actually. Hmmm, the EURO may just pull a coup based on the observational and model trends. I almost 100% expect the GFS to come south on the 12z run now.
