how do you sign up to be a spotter?

depends on if you wanna do the Coop route or just be a general spotter. You can get the nws number and just call in whenever you want, we got that all the time.

http://www.weather.g...coop/become.htm

or you can go to the your regions storm spotter training

you can also sign up for espotter

http://espotter.crh.noaa.gov/

if you wanna learn how to do the official stuff

Just uploaded 05Z SmartModel run. Looks like snowfall is starting to push off to the east now. Just looking at some snowfall forecasts from now to 48 hours out. MN is looking across the area 2-4" of additional snow, with Minneapolis the high point with 4.2" of more snow for the next 24 hours. Wisconsin looking at another 1-3" of snow for next 24 hours.

It looks like about two inches has fallen in downtown Toronto. There is currently another batch of snow just to the southwest of the city of Toronto, but it is having a hard time making inroads. There is a very sharp northern cut-off on radar and it looks like Toronto is on the wrong side of it.

3 storms this winter by my count that were hits on the models within 48 hours and still managed to screw us.

Wow, LAF peaked at 61/52 at 3AM...but has been sorta back doored this morning, now down to 37/34 at 9AM. An interesting afternoon and evening on tap as the race between the moisture and deeper cold air is on. 12z NAM brings 0.50"+ QPF, but what in what form is TBD. Should be fun...

Pretty wild, I have 30 on my deck, and Indy is still in the low 50's...WWA just went up for our tier of counties, could be dicey with ice.

Yeah IND still torching. Somewhat of a strange storm with the way the cold has come back in from the east/northeast. Even west of here at Champaign they're still sitting in the mid 40's. Looking at things a little closer, LAF will probably stave off any wintry precip (thinking just a cold rain) until the very end. Different story for you guys in Muncie and Kokomo though. Best of luck.

Yep, going to be a very fine line between cold rain and a mess. So glad we have school today.

Yes it will. Most times being farther west is a good thing, but not this time. LAF will be not far enough east to get into any wintry action with this system. To quote Hoosier's favorite announcer..."Mercy!".

The second round of snow missed KW

2.4" is my final

You and SSC must have been just on the fringe. I'm guessing we have 6" min. - but I'm going out to shovel and I'll confirm it then. When I packed it in at 11 oclock last night we had maybe an inch. We had been dryslotted for a couple hours by then, but the radar looked to be filling in from the west, so I was cautiously optimstic..... Windsor got 11".
