Stevo you were probably on the north edge I bet. I had two quick flashes and they were bright. It partially lit up the tower.

Weather Underground shows a 40% chance of hail with that storm cell just west of Metro airport... it'll be interesting to see if you get any hail out of it.

Towards BowMe's area

0600 PM SNOW MILWAUKEE INTERNATIONAL 42.94N 87.90W

02/20/2011 M1.7 INCH MILWAUKEE WI OFFICIAL NWS OBS

STORM TOTAL FOR TODAY AS OF 6 PM CST

That figure doesn't surprise me. About 10 to 12 miles north, north of I-94, I would guess there is 4 to 5 inches on the ground. Also seems to be a decent layer of ice on our power lines.

I think Stevo got in on a seperate area of +TSSN.

Otherwise me, stebo and kab would have heard/seen the lightning/thunder too.

It's still early in the event, so everyone should see thundersnow (or thundersomething) at some point.

Hi Jon. I didn't know you posted here. I think you know who this is.

31.4 degrees with freezing drizzle here. Ugh.

Hey Mark!

I didn't until about a week ago when someone at work pointed me to a thread about the NCEP model images changing location for the weather animator.

Reading these threads over the past several days has been amazing. It fulfills my meteorological need for discussions of winter storms because my wife just doesn't understand. ;)

Couldnt wait to get on here...had a family dinner..

Saw Thundersnow around 6:40 ish pm. It was awesome!!!! Sitting at the table with my father and the windows lit up..We both jumped out of our seats and raced to the door..opened the door and heard the bang..It was followed by another flash and yet another bang..We both high fived eachother...Now I know where I got my interest in weather. My father! He was more giddy about the TSSN than me. My wife and mother laughed and couldnt figure out why him and I where so interested...

Great Storm so far. About 7 inches on the ground..upstream returns are blahh..but hey the TSSN made the night!!

This is one of those storms where the intensity of the snow makes it AWESOME regardless of total snowfall, though that obviously has already busted well on the good side!

No doubt. I check in every now and again during the winter. It is nice to know that there are more winter weather enthusiasts (nutjobs may be another word you could use :) ) out there.

Ok...back to this amazing storm that is missing me :arrowhead:

Up to 1.9" since 730pm. The intense granular snows have changed over to large light flakes in the last fifteen minutes.

Looking at WSO radar, the band of intense dbz has shifted north of here. It now extends from northern Huron County southeast to Halton Region. Looks like 2-3" will be my final total. Original forecast 6-8" this morning, revised to 2-4" this afternoon.
