Today: Freezing rain and sleet before noon, then rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow. Some thunder is also possible. High near 32. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tonight: Rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow before midnight, then snow and freezing rain likely. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 25. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Washington's Birthday: Snow likely and areas of blowing snow. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 21 by 5pm. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

That's Madison's forecast and I think it's a good forecast. .2-.5 ice and 2-4 inches of snow. Looks right to me.

It's 36 here. If surface temps would have stayed about 5 degrees colder here through this event this would have been one hell of a devastating ice storm. Kind of scary to think about actually. It's a good thing we have no snow cover left. That could have made all the difference right there.

Yeah, we're getting moderate rain now and it's all ZR. This might be my first real ice storm. :snowman:

hard to get lots of ice to accumulate this time of year during the day though due to the higher sun angle , some solar still gets through the clouds

Yeah, literally the fact that we can see light is proof enough that solar radiation is getting through. However, some complicating factors are very thick clouds and a fresh and heavy 1-2" snowpack.

Salt will fix the sidewalks and streets if they can get the snow off, but they're gonna have to work quick. Trees are screwed since the conductivity of the air will keep them at freezing. With an inch of precip forecast I just don't see how this won't be an ice storm unless warm air can nose it's way in, which might happen but hasn't yet.

Up to 30.6° F in-between some pretty big bands. Only freezing drizzle momentarily. Temp should crash with the precip. I wouldn't be surprised to see sleet and even some graupel towards the core of the band.

Snow started here lightly at 10:05am central. It's been moderate now for the past 20-25 minutes, and visibility's down to 1/2 mile. Actually snow keeps picking up; wonderful.

Temp was 31.8F prior to snow, it's now 31.1. Light ESE wind.

Very reassuring to have the snow start so quickly. At 8am, we still had broken sun thru mixed altocu and cirrus. That made me nervous and now I feel a whole lot better.

Location is 40 miles north and a few miles west of Downtown Milwaukee. 12 miles inland from Lake MI shoreline.
