Avdave
My friend and her husband were traveling down I 95 today when they got stuck in this traffic in Laurel, near the new Md 200 highway interchange or ICC as it is known here amazing pics from the wild fires going on
bowtie`
Wild fire or controlled burn? I see the construction equipment and all that bare ground with the construction netting that had to be set up before the fire got to the edge of the road. Just makes me wonder if this might have been a controlled burn.
bowtie`
On second thought, just how dry is it out there? I forget that the local conditions here do not equal local conditions there. Here with all the melting snow and ice, the ground is soggy soft. Like walking on top of a wet sponge. Everything dry and crispy there?

Near Zero dew points and winds gusting to 50-60 mph, all done by mother nature, these were just brush fires that escalated Bowtie. There over 100 fires burning last night in VA alone. It got pretty wild in Md and VA yesterday thru the night time
whitemountainhiker
Interesting how the visibilities at Dulles never dropped below 10 miles...do you think the automated sensor was wrong? Those are some pretty intense photos. Kinda reminds me of the smoke I saw last Memorial Day weekend with those fires in Canada. I cant imagine what the smoke was like at the source. I think the Dulles sensor is right. There really werent any fires nearby to lower the vis there, the winds were blowing NW so the smoke never really got to IAD though they did report some FU in their METAR's yesterday but it had to be really fine in the air to put that in there.
