DaculaWeather

I remember very well too. I remember how dark it was outside, it was snowing like crazy, probably the hardest I've ever seen it snow. Then the sky would light up with this eerie glow and then thunder. I got about 11" down here in Dacula with drifts to 2-3'.

We had a good 3 foot drift on our back deck. I went out for a few minutes the first day and by the time I came back my footprints were gone. It was so windy it was incredible. One memory that sticks out is the daffodils being in full bloom with snow all around them. Another memory is that the snow wasn't any good to play with until the melting started.

have a good spring and Summer. Hope it remains somewhat active in the Southeast instead of going into the doldrums...seems we're awfully quiet now. We always lose a lot of members around this time of year...not sure why considering how rare snow is really across most of the Southeast, and how active the Spring and Summers can be..I'd be posting just as much now as anytime in Dec and Jan, (but understand it was quite an unusual Winter).

I think it all comes down to where your interests lie. Winter weather trumps all other types by far for me.

Same here....chasing the ever elusive winter storm....equilivant for me of the tornado chase....I'm a winter wx weenie all the way! My interest in severe storms are only for self/family preservation....for some chasing a tornado is awesome....for me, living through hurricane Opal and getting caught outside in the middle of a gustnado provided nothing but trauma and stress.....because of the severe weather potential, spring is my least favorite season.

I enjoy winter because it's a lot easier to watch and follow the models for snow storm threats...For severe wx, prediction is hard and you have to rely on probability and then it comes down to watching radar and grlevel2/3 and chasing it that way. Snow storms are much more thrilling to watch to me.

Severe wx season is just me looking at radar and watching it unfold, that's basically all I do...no model watching, really.

I think thats king of 90% of the posters on here. I am an avid fan of weather year round, but can't stand drought, which seems to always rule here most of the time. Still its interesting to follow everybody else's weather patterns. It would be nice to have enough posters on here during "regular" weather in Spring and Summer with just rain amounts.

*sigh* :( One day that will change. I just hope that it is sooner rather than later. In the mean time...I'm looking forward to my sprinkles tomorrow

Winter is my favorite but I also love summer thunderstorms. They can be extremely disappointing when they barely miss you but awe inspiring when one rains itself out over you. Ill be around all year at least to report rain amounts and temperature extremes. I'll also take part in the inevitable regional/state squabble just to get people riled up.

I think if there was more discussion on spring and summer I'd be on a lot more as well...it's too bad a good chunk of the community seems to go dormant after mid March. Now I'm spending most of my time here flipping between the reactor meltdown thread and the ****storm in OT (k*** screencapped a mod talking behind people's backs).

Beautiful weather though right now, if a bit warm. Looks like we'll be pushing the upper 70s by late week!

I'll be around too.

And... while we're generally off topic, if anyone has a PWS and you send your data to Wunderground, I have a new script that will pull temps and rainfall from WU for my GRL3 METAR data. It also updates much quicker (10 minutes) than the NWS METAR stations.

Send me your WU station number and general location, and I'll see about adding your station to the map.

Looking forward to a little bit of rain around here overnight and tomorrow morning. It will help some of that pollen to get out of the air!!! Then I see.... sun, sun, and more sun as that ridge builds into place and parks itself over the GoM. hahaha Got to love March weather here across the southeast!

Unfortunately I like all kinds of wx too lol, which keeps me here unless we are drought. I agree that's the worst. Not only because all the plants start drying up but there is absolutely no wx in a drought and I go into serious withdrawals

You need to watch Glen Burns more often then! His model can predict where afternoon thunderstorms will develop during the summer months. As Lookout will tell you, it's quite amazing.:lmao:

I hold nothing against GA where they've more than quadrupled my rain totals over the last 2 years. But I know what you mean. I'll be secretly cursing the 77 corridor by June when they get north to south mega thunderstorm complexes that miss me again.

Looks like quite a ridge showing up next Fri-Sun. I look for little posts then unless record highs show up. Which is possible.

Speaking of, thunderstorms are knocking on GA's door. This line hasn't been handled too well by models, but can't comment on Mr. Burn's fx. models. Looks like a good amount of rain for GA and dying out once again as it cruises east into NC.

That's exactly what I have been doing myself.I am actually surprised I am still lingering around here since the weather has been warming up.What can I say you guys are kinda growing on me.

Man that's awesome that you can do that!

the line is really falling apart and looking ragged as it comes into the Carolinas this morning, as expected though. Congrats to GA and Al on another good rain event. Have a few sprinkles now. I noticed on the truck some shimmering green, so I know pollen season is beginning now.

It's a slow process getting the stations in the right place, I'll probably end up with about 40 stations per radar site. I'm trying to pick out the rapid-fire stations that appear to be the most accurate. I think I'll change the refresh rate to 5 minutes (I can set it on whatever time period I'd like).

It also allows me to cover areas that don't have a regular METAR station close by.

Up to 1.09" so far.

I'm starting to give up hope for anything more than trace amounts in the Raleigh area. QPF seems to be disappearing before our eyes. Maybe .1" will be doable, but anything more seems like a long shot to me now. axesmiley.png

not looking like much for sure. The line has split as it came toward me, mostly its hugging the Apps now and another small batch coming from central to ne GA may get here but its continuously dissipating as it gets east into the GSP and CLT areas. Its outrunning its upper support which is heading north now. A trace here so far, just enough to cause a few green dots on the porch and truck. I think some areas between RDU and CAE won't get a single drop. After today, we'll have to wait until about March 24th for our next shot at rain.
