Well, they already are killing education and police in this country. Seriously, this country is going down hill so fast it is not even funny. Does anyone really think this country will be better off with less teachers, less police, and less weather information? I don't know, maybe it is me, but this does not seem like the solution to our problems, it seems like they are making our problems much worse. Meanwhile the rich bankers have found a way to privatize all the gains and socialize all the losses. The middle class is dead.

Mods feel free to delete - just realized this is in a different section after I Posted BUT this should be read by everyone

Well.....on the bright side it should make for some good model porn  The same people that voted to cut the budgets are the same people that will be crying when the forecasts suffer. :banned: All of the improvements the GFS has made to get on the same playing field as the Euro will go down the drains. People need to call their congressmen up and let them know this is not acceptable.

I can see why everyone is upset, but at the end of the day, remember were talking about weather models.......the general public does not give a crap especially with our debt in the trillions.

The point is, the GFS and NAM wont become completely obsolete and we will still have the Euro as a dominant weather model.

Its not like we wont be able to predict weather anymore.......

The GFS gave us 12 hours more lead time before the December 26 storm than the Euro did, giving us 36 hours warning before the storm started, rather than the 24 hours the Euro gave us. That makes a big difference when you are dealing with such a weather event. They are messing with people's lives, but you are correct politics will win out and the average person has no clue, that is why teachers and police officers are losing their jobs as well. It makes nice political headlines, while at the same time, the top 1% of income earners in this country have seen their tax bracket drop from 91% 100 years ago to 33% today. There has been a gradual decline in income taxes for the richest people in this country, going from 91% to 70%, to 50%, to 40%, to 32% today. But again the average person is clueless about this as well. The people who benefit from these massive tax decreases are the same people who are shipping all of our jobs to China and who pay off the politicians. Meanwhile the middle class is getting decimated.

Agree....the richest one tenth of one percent continues to do great in this ctry while the majority continues to suffer. How dumb is it to keep the bush tax cuts after they have proven to be a total failure? How obscene is it that folks who have designed computers to game the stockmarket and trade 10000 times a second make billions? Why is that not illegal especially after the flash crash? Maybe get rid of the bush tax cuts or put a 90pct tax rate on companies using these fradulent computers and pay for upper air data to go into models.

That was an extreme event, most mets agree. The point is the GFS and NAM will not become obsolete, if this goes into affect. Will performance suffer? Sure, but is it the end to NWP as we know it? Not at all.
