Kinda fitting tribute to what was blizzard of 2011. Almost like watching an old friend die....

Like a dangerous friend, the snow left

leaving everywhere shabby and dirty.

Its going is a relief but also a sadness.

No more will the nights seem bright

as the moon uses the garden for a mirror,

no more will the birds watch eagerly

when the nut holders are filled.

The snow left behind no gifts for us

despite the overstayed welcome,

the trouble caused. Snow’s like that.

A winter visitor, magical at first but soon

the jokes become tedious, the appetite

insatiable, the whisky bottle emptying

as Snow slakes its thirst. Then overnight

snow has slung its hook and driven off

leaving a few kisses in the cold spots.

Made it to 52 here today with a lot more sun than I thought we'd see. Melted a lot of snow. Down to about 4-5 inches now. The once mammoth 4-6' drifts are now 1-2' mounds of dirty slush lol.

Looks like temps will rise back up towards 50 later tonight, and that will really eat away the snow. Should make the low to mid 60s tomorrow. MLI's record of 62 is going down! :guitar:

wasted a great day inside here watching weather models.. I would have had to much road rage driving 45 mins to go fishing and seeing everybody enjoying the day with their windows down and country music cranking.. or joggers in shorts with their chubby pasty white winter legs. One more day of this and friday we can get back to a little bit more normal stuff.

I just realized it got into the 60s in parts of the UP today. Ironwood was in the low 60s and Houghton was in the upper 50s. I guess snowcover didn't hold their temps back today.

The bigger question, how warm would they have been if they didn't have snow cover.

I bet it will really get quite warm here tomorrow night with the howling winds mixing the warm air down to the surface. It should be a very warm night. I wouldn't be surprised to see it stay in the 50s all night. Maybe touch 60F somewhere?

One limiting factor for tomorrow would be low level clouds/moisture, however if that can be overcome, then upper 50s to near 60 is entirely possible.

I'm not impressed with the low cloud potential tomorrow.

We could still erode it out as we head into the afternoon as the air will sitll be just as dry as it was today once you get above the surface and the mixing heights are pretty high.

Yeah what is out there in the neighborhoods has stayed nicely, here at the airport because of the open field and no obstructions there is a lot of empty patches.

Open fields and especially near busy roads have a lot of grass patches, but neighborhoods still fully snowcovered. Avg depth about 5" after a 50F day today. I live on a N-S street and it sucks how much the sun eats away at the snow on the sun-facing side, and how it morphs away from the sidewalk with the grass line creeping further in each day, whereas the shady side of the street, or either side of an E-W street does not have that problem.

Why why was it so warm today in the UP????? anyone? I had some sun, with haze and i still couldn't break 50f

There are defintely some impressive temperature gradients on there.

Nearly 20 degree difference from Detroit to Sarnia (they didn't even get above freezing), only 50 miles distance. Then I think you went from the upper 40s in NW Ohio to the upper 60s in SW Ohio.

42 out there right now. This time last week we were already at -8 on the way to a low of -17. With temps expected to rise later tonight we may end up over 60 degrees warmer this Thursday morning compared to last Thursday. Pretty amazing turnaround.

What's your snow depth down to?

Sitting at 49F here...dropped back to 45F a bit earlier, but it has come up since then.
