michsnowfreak
Few storm post-mortum stats: As long as we consider the waa as part of the Feb 1/2 snowstorm, Detroit officially saw two 10"+ snowstorms in a span of 3 weeks (10.3" on Feb 1/2, 10.1" on Feb 20/21). Something of the sort has only happened once before, and that was in 1900, and that was in a span of ONE week (14.0" on Feb 28/Mar 1, 1900 and 16.1" on Mar 4/5, 1900). So while the 1900 events were more impressive (not to mention there was also a 10.0" storm on Feb 4, 1900)....this February of 2011 certainly is And my oh my look at this: DTW Feb snowfall February 2010: 27.0" February 2011: 27.0" thru 7pm 2/21 February avg: 9.3"

cyclone77
Nice to have you back to the icepussie side gl tonight and the rest of the week. Haha thanks, you too. Yeah I'll be back to rooting for snow again unless it looks like something's going to cut hardcore. Hearing that thunder yesterday definitely got me looking forward to chasing later next month and beyond.
AppsRunner
6" of snowfall today brings our February total here to approximately 20", and our winter total at 39.2" or so.
michsnowfreak
If luck is on our side and we get some snow with these next 2 storms, could it break the all time snowiest february? That will be a challenge because our snowiest February is actually our snowiest all-time month as well. However we have an EXCELLENT shot at #2: 1.) 38.4" - Feb 1908 2.) 28.5" - Feb 1881 3.) 28.0" - Feb 1900 4.) 28.0" - Feb 1926 5.) 27.0" - Feb 2010 6.) 27.0" - Feb 2011 thru 7pm Feb 21st ALSO.....we are within spitting distance of cracking the top 20 snowiest winters. At 54.2", DTW is currently tied at #24, just 2.5" more snow and we enter the top 20. If we do, it will be an amazing feat that 5 of the past 9 winters are in the top 20 snowiest winters, considering its a timespan of record of 130 years! I mentioned it in the other thread...wow. So last night Detroit saw 10.1" of snow and Toledo 0.9"...then tonight Detroit sees just very light snow while Toledo sees 6". Talk about some crazy gradients..glad you could cash in though!

BowMeHunter
ord and dtw neck and neck now with the big red line for a good time storm... but did dtw maybe blow a cylinder allowing ord to regain the lead and not look back after this week Should be a better race than the daytona 500. cyclone77
The half inch of snow this evening puts us over 54 inches for the season. A truly fantastic winter. The combination of long lasting snow cover, decent arctic cold, very strong clipper hits, powerful blizzard, and seasonally high accumulation totals make this a near perfect winter. turtlehurricane
Snowing pretty hard in Madison, some sort of mesoscale boundary has stalled near us and weak convection is going up. Even weak convection can produce intense snow though when it's this cold. If this can last for a little while we might get some real decent accumulations. turtlehurricane
61.0" on the season as of midnight, we might've gotten a little more after. Some of the totals from this portion of the storm seemed lower than what I would have thought. Looks like 4 by me and 5-6" north up to Mt Saukville. On the short side of the gradient stick again. Decent little snowpack out there again and the probably near 300lb mailman can walk on top of the weekend glacier.
michsnowfreak
Apparently Buffalo has also yet to receive a 6" storm total this winter. Much more impressive a feat considering their climo. I checked their f6, BUF did get 7.8" on Feb 1/2, but still only one 6" storm on 86.2" of snow IS impressive. For comparison, Detroit has had THREE 6"+ storms on 54.2" of snow 6.3" - Dec 12 10.3" - Feb 1/2 10.2" - Feb 20/

They actually had one of the news anchors in Monroe (about 25 miles to my SW) and it was a different world post-storm. While all of metro-Detroit was digging out of 10-11" snow, the far outskirts near the OH border were like a different world. They had about 4" of snow and all the trees were draped in crystal. They panned to her feet and she said she was standing in the middle of the park, and she stomped her feet...and didnt so much as dent the glacier.
