michsnowfreak
As an avid picture-taker, I like to document the good, bad, and ugly of the weather. Strong SW winds, temps in the 40s...not my ideal February day, but it was sort of imminent in such a cold winter as this. So as I was out and about today, some pics of a February thaw. nzucker
I like the sunset picture and the birds (geese?) playing in the snow. The deep gray of the afternoon is really well portrayed...Of course it's always sad to see the snow melt. I've got a lot on the ground here but the warmth is moving east, my friend, sad days ahead. I agree, hate seeing snow melt. After 50 degrees today, our snow depth is about 5" of heavy slush. First time depths been under 6" in 3 weeks. Busy roads are just awful, tons of grass patches and black/gray/dirty mounds of snow. Also getting to that time of year when you will see insane snow depth differences on N-S facing streets. Unfortunately though, a normal winter does see thaws and weve only had 4 days with no snow on the ground since early December. so a winter lover like me cant complain. But hopefully this is mother nature reloading herself for plenty more snow
wishforsnow
Here in town there is just ugly dirty snowbanks everywhere. Most of the out of state snowmobilers have left. Conditions are terrible. At least all of the ice dams came down off my roof and also the snow is pretty much gone on the roof. My driveway is nothing but ice. There is even water on top of the ice down at the shipping canal.

I cancelled my annual U.P. trip because I figured why spend money to see some dirty snow when I got to enjoy deep fresh snow in my own backyard. Of course Id settle for dirty snow than no snow. It looks SO weird out today seeing bare ground, its been a long time. Its been a wonderful winter for snowcover....honestly cannot complain. But it is just sickening to see bare ground today and even the piles (mainly on sunny sides of the street like mine) just decimated, considering how deep the snow was a few days ago. 2" of water in the snowpack wasnt enough for the torch. Luckily if we get snow Sunday, that means we will only have to deal with this horrible bare ground for 2-3 days. Still lots of large snowbanks around, but half of them resemble coal more than snow.
