Really brutal conditions this evening here. Down to 15 °F and the roads are freezing over completely. Also very fine snow is falling to add to the fun, probably some far flung LES from Superior.

Full tank of gas and a couple of girls with the sophomore 20 in the back seat should help. Like daddy said go practice in a parking lot and get to know your pony... When I was your age my 84' IROC with a couple 80 pound sand tubes in back where they wont shift around worked wonders and was almost unstoppable in snow. Some say not to do that because when the rear breaks loose it will be significantly more difficult to recover. I never had that problem - but it CAN happen especially if you panic or are not familiar with the ways your pony can buck you off.

Set of 4 Bridgestone Blizzax tires from the Parents Clause will treat you right also.

I've been meaning to do the parking lot thing since last year, will do so soon now that we've got a snowpack.

I actually do have some experience driving my pony on ice, went to Minneapolis to help a friend out in January during an ice storm. I had the whole highway to practice :P

Tapping the break alot and weak touches of the accelerator when speeding up seems to prevent almost all problems.

Just don't drive as fast as the Illanoy folks crossing the border to get in to WI and you should be fine. Just drive smart and you'll stay out of the ditches.. At all cost stay out of Indiana in snow and ice unless you feel like some demo derby action

The bolded cannot be stressed enough. INDOT is sketchy and the drivers in Indiana are sketchier.

It's currently snowing pretty good here.

They're the perfect dendrites too (not too aggregated, not too small).

You are in Sterling Heights? Let me know how much. Radar is showing some heavy snowbands in Detroits north/northeast suburbs right now. Checked a webcam near Warren and the freeway is fully snowcovered. Flakes continue to fly here but no accumulation.

I'm in Detroit.

The side street here is snowcovered and there's a dusting on the grass, but other than brief moderate bursts the main band has remained stationary just a couple miles to my NE.

Sean Ash, one of the mets from Detroit, said some areas in the Detroit area might see 1-2 inches.

Yeah looks like Royal Oak/Pleasant Ridge seem to be making out great. Here just a trace still :(. But such is the nature of lake effect in SE MI. If you get in a band you can make out. Otherwise, lots of flakes and little accum. Flakes have been in the air here AT LEAST 85% of the time since the calendar turned to December. Yet 5 full days and just 0.3" to show for it, nothing on the ground attm.

Luckily the extended looks active, so all things considered Im in a better mood than I would normal expect for the circumstances of missing the first synoptic snowstorm of the season and getting screwed with les lol!

With most lake outbreaks in SE MI, there is always some place that gets lucky and makes out great. We can get decent, even whiteout, lake snow here. The problem is it is very isolated, and even if you know the wind flow, you never know who will get the band. So with any outbreak is, the general rule is to expect a dusting, hope you get under a band.

I have about an inch here in Sterling Heights and I have a feeling they are getting more just a few miles to the west of me. This snow was the first time this season i have seen snowfall above the flurry category and it was actually quite intense for about a half hour. I'm still hoping that band just to the west of me can slide east a little but its been pretty persistent along I-75. I wasn't expecting anything more though so I'm quite satisfied thumbsupsmileyanim.gif. And it finally looks like us south east michiganders finally have a decent chance of some sort of synoptic scale event towards the end of the week/weekend!

Snowing nicely and ground completely covered! Squall from Georgian Bay right over me and might stay that way for a good chunk of the morning.

That's nice to hear and about time! We went thru TO yesterday and it looked kinda sad w/o snow.

We have about a foot here. The worst of it still looks to be a little bit east of me, where it has been most of the night. They should have some impressive totals.
