A-L-E-X
Ratings. Then there must be a lot of morons watching them because I havent watched the local news since the 90s except when there was a big weather event occurring or on 9/11 Why do we like watching idiots on TV? Because quite honestly it makes me wish I owned a gun so I could shoot up my screen. Those talking heads look like they have the education of a typical middle schooler-- maybe not even that. And I dont care for the fluff they broadcast, it's always the same stuff, just packaged differently and basically seeks to reinforce the stereotypes we already have and encourages people not to think for themselves. Of course, this should come as no surprise, because we all know large corporations own these stations and this is glaringly obvious by what they do and dont broadcast..... phlwx
...and now she's gone. shipped to philly. She was awful. CBS 3 is stocking up on Accuweather girls...first Kate Bilo (who has been quite solid here) and now Katie.

Scotty Lightning
So Kathy Orr wanted more time to spend with her kids as they get older...so she cut back her wx casts. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/katie-fehlinger-joins-philadelphias-kyw-next-month_b16762
tmagan
I have always wondered how many hours a TV forecaster spends preparing their forecast?
phlwx
I have always wondered how many hours a TV forecaster spends preparing their forecast? Some much more than others...depends on who and if they give a sh*t about getting it right.
JBG
I don't think the likes of Roger Grimsby, Jim Jensen and Bill Beutel, all of whom took no guff from anybody, could survive in New York news today. I didn't like Gordon Barnes from what I can remember. I did like Alan Casper.Tex Antoine and Frank Fields, dreadful. Made Gordon Barnes look good by comparison. Scotty Lightning
I have always wondered how many hours a TV forecaster spends preparing their forecast? Don't you mean how much time their weather producer spends on preparing their forecast?
tmagan
Don't you mean how much time their weather producer spends on preparing their forecast? I know, but on air weather forecasters have to deal with doing community service events, dealing with station executives, going to award shows, etc., etc., etc.
SnowGoose69
I remember when PIX11 had the great Joe Cioffi. He was great on the weekend. Then linda from the AM said she wanted to move to weekends and they cut Joe. He went to NBC but never made it. I know PIX just totally re-did their news format which really upset many people. I like Jodi Applegate and I think it is still better than fox 5. But I know the company that owns PIX is failing so who knows. They may can the whole station. Mr G would be finished, he could never go to another station with his style. At least not anymore. I read Marshall may fill in at PIX this week. Not sure why, but at least he'll be working. I know Johns wife didnt work. When i worked with him at WNBC, when i was a wx producer there, she would call him all the time about the kids. If he doesnt bring home the bacon, it would be rough times for them. He wants to stay in NYC, as anyone would. But there are no openings so he may be screwed. Joe Cioffi could be the most underrated TV weather guy ever anywhere in the U.S. The guy is so amazingly sharp and can talk technical yet at the same time speak it in a way that the audience can understand yet for some reason he has never quite been able to strike it big despite roaming around the biggest market in the country for a good 20 years now. I think his mistake was trying to divide his time between News 12 and WPIX back in 1996 before News 12 forced him into its us or them deal ultimately causing him to leave News 12. I think if he had stayed at News 12 another 5 years or so he'd eventually have landed a big time weekday job at one of the NYC stations.

CT Rain
I have always wondered how many hours a TV forecaster spends preparing their forecast? Depends on the day and the person. I try to get in and forecast from 2-4 p.m. and make graphics from 4-5 p.m. When there is a lot going on I can get in as early as 12:30 or if there is very little as late as 3:00.
