This. I got 3.4" off of a prediction of 8-14". arrowheadsmiley.png

IF that had an arctic air mass prior to the storm, that didn't give us poor ratios, we would have EASILY gotten 24-30 inches of snow. I even said to a professional met who I am friends with, said that would have been top five storm of all time for us; of course the surface low was a thing of a beauty.

Extremely dynamic system at H500; several closed contours (via cutoff low). Just a sweet system synopitcally.

Measured 12.5" with that system, the first of several major snows last February. Upton definitely was overaggressive in predicting snowfall amounts, however; that 24" forecast was the definition of a joke as not many models showed our area receiving over 2" of QPF, which would have been necessary to get those amounts given the lack of arctic air entrained in the system.

that was our big problem last year--we kept recycling the same ol stale airmass--hurt us on the feb 25th event too...and led to march being so warm--no fresh arctic intrusions once past early Feb last year--wierd to see no cold fronts come through for 6 weeks!

It really hurt us with the 25th storm. If we had a much colder airmass in place, the area would have saw over 20 inches of snow.

Uncle, how much did you have in the 2/25 storm?

Isn't there one hill in Staten Island that gets up to 400'? Perhaps they had a bit more in these marginal storms?

I got less than the 2/10 storm...About 11" on the ground after the storm...Todt Hill is 400ft...The peak is near Ocean terrace and Todt Hill Rd...They are usually a degree or two colder up there...

18.5" from that one. It was MYBY's largest snowfall last year. Was very similar to this years Jan 27,28 in so that there was a round 1 thump of 4 to 6" followed by a peroid of light sleet, ZR with some R mixed in, then rapidly changing over to Mad, crazy nuts, wet snow. I loved 2-10-10, had just over 30" on the ground after that one.

8" here

Crappy storm like the rest of the storms that winter. 2" per hour rates followed by flurries for 8 hours. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

The snowfall gradient across the Sound in '10 was not exactly run of the mill, with Bridgeport measuring 38.1" of snow on the winter, while Upton, just off to the SE, came in with 67.8".

I had almost the exact same amount of snow in Winter 09-10 as Upton, with a final total of 68"...Long Island made up for raining in the 2/25 storm by getting nearly 20" in the 12/19 event, which wasn't a big hit up here in Westchester, only dumped 8" at my house.

Upton saw:

12/26: 26.3",

2/10: 13.4",

2/26: 10.4"

I'm 10 miles to their WNW and measured 18.0", 14.5", and 10.9", in chronological order.

We had 14.5" on 2/10/10, then a foot following the rain on 2/26. 60.1" here for the season and I'm about 19 miles from Sikorski. Quite the gradient indeed.

The Port Jefferson seasonal total was also 60.1"...a few snowshowers the first couple days of March pushed us over the top.

3/10ths of an inch of snow on March 5, to be exact...last snow of winter here.

I had 0.4" on 3/3 and 0.2" on 3/4. Pretty much the same deal except the date seems off.

KISP with 0.3" on 3/3, a trace on 3/4 and 0.1" on 3/5

Then we got robbed on 3/5 :weenie: . I don't think I'm over it yet.

It was a phenomenal storm where I live........my all time favorite.

20" right after 25" on February 5-6.

True blizzard conditions with temps around 20 and about 30" on the ground at the height of the storm is something I could never imagine witnessing.

You would like this Fozz....

Absolutely epic snow depth.
