JacobN
I've put together a website where you can view interactive graphs of the weather - pan and zoom through the full history of a weather station and get multiple forecasts for the current location, all overlaid on records and averages for the weather station: http://weatherspark.com Pan the graph by clicking and dragging. Zoom with the mouse wheel, and there are zoom shortcuts up left of the graph. Pick the data series to show in the "More Graphs" section. Use the map to quickly browse through the world's weather, station-by-station. Search for any location on earth. It's still in beta, so please pardon any rough edges in the application or glitches in the data - weather stations sometimes report bogus values, and we're working to sort those out. We currently have > 4,000 stations, but are working to add more (it's primarily METAR right now, want to add Mesonet/PWS as well). The current conditions are updated once or twice per hour, we're working to make them effectively instantaneous. Would love to hear your thoughts on it. Which data series are your favorites? Which ones are missing that we should add? Thanks! Jacob
Shades
Very interesting and dynamic approach to displaying weather observations! Certainly makes scanning for obs on a map very precise, and the past/forecast readings are very valuable to see in conjunction with the current weather -- a plethora of data/content -- and also aesthetically accessible -- nice work! I've bookmarked it. On a side note, the domain (weatherspark.com) is one I used to own and manage several years back. Glad to see it turning up in good hands. Which data series are your favorites? The linear trends of the observations are extremely useful, as well as the underlying climatological averages/records. The dragging mouse-over feature on the graph for probabilities of precipitation/cloud cover/etc and the extent thereof is a great tool. Which ones are missing that we should add? Viewing past precip totals as a mouse-over feature on the graph along with forecast precip amounts would be a further useful data addition to this type of weather web interface. Again, great site. JacobN
Thanks for the great feedback Shades! Funny coincidence that you used to own the domain - it's a small web Precipitation: yeah, we definitely want to add the (liquid equivalent) amount of precipitation fallen. There are some data fidelity/reporting consistency issues with it which is why it didn't make it into the first beta, but we're working on it.
