It's almost hard to fathom that there are 78* obs in this thread now and there may very well be snowfall obs in 3-4 days.

Back in March 30 1997 it was 64 degrees when I was living in NW NJ and we had shorts and t shirts on and the next day April 1 1997 we had almost 2 feet of the heaviest wet snow you can imagine.

It happened numerous times around April 20 or so back in the early to mid 1980's too up there. wild swings!

STATE OF THE SNOWPACK - FEB 18 2011

There is NO snowpack - But there are surviving snowpiles in at least three places I know of

1) In front of Giant Food in Center Plaza in Dale City near Glendale which is where I reside

2) At bottom of the Rec center parking lot where trees shade the precious snow from the HATED sun

3) In the commuter lot next to Center Plaza.

There are probably more surviving snow piles at Potomac Mills mall.

These snowpiles are heroic - They have stood the test of 70s weather and want a new regime - a decent cold regime - which is on the way. The snow in these plowed snowpiles is the original Jan 26 wet snow which is very tough industrial strength snow which takes a 74 degree lickin' and just keeps on tickin'.

Let's hope these snowpiles are soon joined by many more of their dendritic brethren.Snowman.gifSnowman.gifSnowman.gifSnowman.gifSnowman.gifSnowman.gifSnowman.gif

Just had a gust from the NW at 31 mph - I am absolutely ECSTATIC that I am now under a High Wind WARNING for wind gusts to 60 mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope I get a few rogue gusts to 70mph !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dewpoints have fallen into the upper 20s WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO---HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Temperature is 65 degrees and falling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a proper time and place for spring weather but this aint it - THIS IS FEB 18 more than a MONTH before spring!!!!!

I probably won't get snow down here in the tropical south Mid Atlantic but I still want my cold weather and extreme high winds!!!! BRING ON THE FALLEN TREES AND POWER OUTAGES!!!!!!!

Bring It ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wind just gusted to 42 mph here. Maybe the weirdest ob I've ever posted, but 60 degrees now with a DP of -4.

Thats pretty amazing Craig, 60 with a DP of -4 on Feb 18.

A few more miles to your south, 45 mph gust at MRB and a few miles to your north 53 MPH gust at HGR

those are the highest so far on the NWS mesonet maps
