State of the Snowpack:

Should be long gone by the time I get home to Clarksburg this evening with only dirty snow piles left along the driveway. This pic is from 7am this morning after 30 hours of above freezing temps. The ground is still frozen solid under the first 1/4" of soil. It's going to be a mucky mess tomorrow. Interesting microclimate factoid, 2m temps bottomed out at 43.3°F last night but down at 6" or so off the ground in a grassy area with no snow, it was 33.8°F. Temp is 65.1°F in Clarksburg, the first 60+ day of the meteorological winter (we only hit 59.8°F a couple of days ago before the cool down).

VERY. WELL. DONE.

Love your work!!!!!

The State of the Snowpack is terrible here in Woodbridge - It does not exist. A few snowpiles are left.

Spring is here to STAY. We will hit 80 degrees by the end of Feb. We may well hit 80 degrees TOMORROW geeze - it was 76 degrees today. We will have an early summer which may well turn out to be the hottest and driest since records began. This heat ridge will become monstrous and will persist into late summer. The tipping point has been reached - global warming will bring extremely hot/dry summers.

It was so hot this afternoon that I was forced to strip to shorts and a t-shirt. This is MISERABLE - I HATE SPRING in February

No more snowpiles in my yard, last one melted overnight. Still have piles on the street, but they are melting fast. Damn stink bugs are starting to come out with the warm weather

Haven't seen that many of the stink bugs here yet. but I bet when I open the door like 6 will fly in. I hate those things.

NWS is really talking about winds tomorrow. I guess I overlooked this threat. Apparently the NAM looked like it gave us insane winds tomorrow on the 0z run last night.

mos has been crazy.. probably the highest sustained winds i've seen it output in yrs.

where the fook is the sun??

What's it show? Can't tease me like that.

sustained winds of like 25-29 kts for multiple hours. usually you can about double for gusts, so that's sustained like 30-35 with gusts near 60 prob. im sure it happens here and there but without a storm etc not terribly often.

The way to determine wind gusts is by looking at the strongest winds from the mixing layer (i.e. the layer in which the temperature curve is dry-adiabatic upwards from the surface in non-precipitation scenarios). That being said, NAM generally has 50-60 kt winds in the mixing layer, so yeah it'll be about double.

So do you think 60mph gusts can happen in DC proper?
