BethesdaWX
The strongest winds I've seen all winter right now. Pretty Fun
das
There was sleet mixed in with the gusty rain shower that just moved thru Clarksburg. I'm guessing that's what that 38dBZ return just to the west of Leesburg was too. 39.2F here. Everyone have a nice Valentines Day.
WxUSAF
Huge hit to the remaining snowcover today. Probably 5% coverage at most around here.

mdhokie
Whats causing these winds today? They seem pretty extreme for the pressure gradient across the area. Just trying to learn something out of this.

Just trying to learn something out of this. It seems to be the combo of pressure gradient and temp gradient. Big temp swings with this front as well. real
One hell of a wind gust just now in Northwest DC. I thought the window on the door to my patio was going to break.

nj2va
Power went out about 5 times last night at the gym. A gutter blew off the townhouse next to me. Noticed some branches down when I walked the dog this morning. TC Williams recorded a 52 MPH wind gust per WTOP yesterday.
BethesdaWX
Anyone think a High Wind Warning should have been issued? Some Pine Tree limbs snapped off (like they would in a snow/ice storm), and blew to the other side of my deck against the railing. Odd that they snapped off at the lower end of the trees as well. They were probably weakened by the snow on 1/26, because similar wind speeds 2 years ago did not snap them.

It's very tough for areas not in the higher elevations to get 58mph+ gusts without a tropical system or severe thunderstorm.

I remember a Big Time windstorm around New Years 2008? Not sure I remember a HWW issued until it was underway.

BethesdaWX
It seems that you experience the strongest winds of anyone. Doubtful The highest gust I got was 51mph, the Vantage Pro2 stopped Transmitting all Data at about 530PM when the sun went down (need to change the batteries). I didn't feel like going up on the roof and doing it. The limbs were likely weakened by the heavy snowfall that bent them on 1/26, so it wouldn't take much of a wind to knock them down last night. Not sure I remember a HWW issued until it was underway. You pretty much need a prolonged period of 58mph+ gusts and/or 40mph sustained. It's very tough to get them to be issued around here let alone verify.
